Heidelberg to Relocate Electric Lines That Cross Route 50

The project will help the borough set an example for beautification, borough manager Joe Kauer said.

Heidelberg Borough has created a plan—The East Railroad Street Business District Electric Service Line Relocation Program—to relocate the electric service lines that cross Route 50.

“This program will fund 90 percent of the costs, with a maximum contribution of $750, to relocate the electric service lines that cross East Railroad Street in Heidelberg," said Mayor Ken LaSota, in a statement released Wednesday. "Through this program, it is planned that all of the cluttering electric infrastructure that currently crosses the roadway, will be relocated to Oak Way behind the Route 50 properties."

The Borough has partnered with Duquesne Light and Comcast Cable to accommodate the service line relocation to Oak Way to pick up the relocated service points for the 15 affected properties on East Railroad Street. The main service line that runs on the west side of Route 50 will remain.

Borough Manager Joe Kauer said the borough has arranged for an electrician to relocate the electrical service line of the Borough Building and a residence at 1643 East Railroad Street—a property owned by Heidelberg Borough—before seeking the 13 other properties to relocate to Oak Way.

This way, he said, the Borough can stand as an example of the expected beautification and how it will be accomplished.

Kauer said East Railroad Street property owners should expect a visit from the mayor and will receive program information by the second week of August.
