Collier Township has been awarded a sizable grant that will help make the new Community Recreation Center even better.

The township received $75,000 from the Community, Infrastructure, and Tourism Fund (CITF) Grant of the Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority. The grant will be used for LED lighting enhancements at the recreation center.

Project architect Dan Franus of Franus Architectural Associates said in July that using LED lighting instead of traditional lighting in the building is projected to reduce the total energy consumption for lighting by between 40 and 50 percent.

"Equipping the new Community Recreation Center with LED lighting, the facility will be sustainable, energy efficient, and a fiscally responsible asset to our community," said board president Robert Schuler in a released statement. "We thank County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Senator Matt Smith, and the Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority for supporting our vision to develop and construct our new Community Recreation Center."
