On Monday, it was in the 40s, with plenty of sunshine. But for Tuesday? Things are gonna look a little different. Rain and snow showers are expected after 2 p.m., with about a half-inch of accumulation possible. After 3 a.m. Wednesday we could see another half-inch of precipitation. And things aren't looking much better the rest of the week, either. "A frontal boundary will push into the area Thursday night into Friday, bringing a wintry mix to the area. Light accumulations of snow and ice area possible with this system," according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service is forecasting snow in the Pittsburgh area late Wednesday night and Thursday morning. There is also a chance of snow Friday afternoon. All the showers could bring 1 to 3 inches before the weekend. The temperatures will remain bitterly cold with lows in the single digits on Thursday and wind chill values below 0. You better bundle up this week as bitterly cold temperatures are expected to move into the Pittsburgh area. Dennis Sims, a meteorologist at Air Science Consultants in Bridgeville, told Chartiers Valley Patch last week that he expected the bitter temperatures to arrive in the South Hills on Tuesday. Sims said the middle of the week would have lows in single digits and highs in the teens. That forecast was backed up by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh. Meteorologists are tracking a small snowstorm coming into western Pennsylvania that will bring about an inch of snow to the South Hills by Wednesday morning. Dennis Sims, a meteorologist at Air Science Consultants in Bridgeville, expects a “wet snow” to move into the South Hills of Pittsburgh around 10 p.m. Tuesday before it changes over to sleet overnight. “It will for some slippery travel later tonight,” Sims said. Temperatures are expected to hover around 30 degrees overnight before the sleet changes over to rain Wednesday morning. Hopes may be dashed for anyone dreaming of a white Christmas in Pittsburgh this year. Weather forecasters say no Yuletide snow is on the way. Meteorologist John Darnley, of the National Weather Service in Moon Township, said a storm front moving in through the Midwest is expected to arrive in western Pennsylvania on Christmas Day.
