Construction Planned on Route 50 in Scott and Carnegie this Weekend

There will be short-term lane closures, according to PennDOT.

Drivers should expect possible traffic delays along Route 50 this weekend. Crews from Swank Construction Company will be conducting patching and asphalt paving operations along Route 50 (Washington Pike) in Scott and Carnegie on Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19, weather permitting. Short-term lane closures will occur 7 a.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday from Hope Hollow Road in Scott to Boden Avenue in Carnegie.  PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and be aware of changing traffic patterns when driving through the area.  Join Patch for more community news or join us on Facebook and Twitter.

I am so tired of construction! I know this is when it HAS to be done, but could we please finish something before we start another? I live in Nevillewood and Prestly road being closed adds 15-20 minutes to my drive and if Route 50 is delayed, it will be longer. Route 50 Road Work Begins April 30

Weather permitting, work will continue at night through May 6.

If you’re traveling Route 50 after 8 p.m. for the next several nights, you might run into a bit of roadwork, lane closures and delays. Weather permitting, PennDOT crews will begin crack and joint sealing on Route 50 in Scott and Collier townships today, Tuesday. Short-term, slow-moving lane closures are expected to occur in both directions at various locations from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights through May 6. Swank Construction Company, LLC. of New Kensington, PA will perform the work under a contract with PennDOT. Washington Road Improvements Begin April 22

The project will affect a large portion of Washington Road, as well as parts of Gilkeson and Connor roads.

PennDOT and Lindy Paving of New Castle will begin a paving project Monday that could affect traffic on Washington Road (Route 19).      The $5.56 million project includes milling and resurfacing, guiderail, minor drainage, curbs, pavement markings, signing, traffic signals, median removal, ADA ramps and other improvements on 2.55 miles of Washington Road from the intersection of Conner/Gilkeson (Route 3038) roads to Alfred Street.  Work and improvements will also occur on Gilkeson and Connor roads in the area of the Washington Road intersection. I-79 Bridge Inspection Wednesday at Bridgeville Interchange

Drivers should expect lane closures and possible delays while PennDOT crews complete the work.

Drivers traveling south on I-79 today, Wednesday, might run into PennDOT crews at the Bridgeville Interchange, Exit 54. Weather permitting, PennDOT will be inspecting the bridge that carries southbound I-79 over Chartiers Creek between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The interchange is located in South Fayette Township and Bridgeville Borough. Banksville Road Construction Begins Monday

PennDOT is delaying the construction work on Banksville Road in Dormont until next week.

PennDOT is delaying the construction work on Banksville Road in Dormont until next week. The work was scheduled to begin Thursday morning and continue through Monday, but rain showers in the Pittsburgh area pushed construction back a few days. Construction is now expected to begin Monday and continue until Wednesday night. Crews plan to install crosswalk markings at various intersections and pave Helen Street at the intersection with Banksville Road. The northbound lanes of Banksville Road will be restricted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The southbound lanes will be under construction from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the three days of work. UPDATED: Multi-Vehicle Crash on Parkway West, Lanes Reopened

Expect delays.

A multi-vehicle crash on the Parkway West has been cleared, but drivers should expect heavy residual delays. The accident occurred on the outbound Parkway West (I-376) just past the Carnegie interchange (Exit 65) around 3:50 p.m. The crash was cleared in about an hour. Two of three lanes were blocked.

Expect delays Monday if you’re traveling on Interstate 79 near the Bridgeville exit. PennDOT announced that there will be single-lane closures north of Exit 54 along the municipal line of South Fayette and Bridgeville. The closures are expected to occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday while crews perform inspections on the bridge overpasses. Both lanes will be restricted, but not at the same time.

Cochran Road Closures Set for Wednesday

Drivers traveling through Mt. Lebanon should expect delays.

Short-term lane closures on Cochran Road in Mt. Lebanon will occur on Wednesday, April 3, weather permitting, according to PennDOT. Restrictions will occur as needed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday between Beverly Road and Washington Road. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect possible delays. Liberty Tunnel Closures Beginning This Week

About 45,000 vehicles use the Liberty Tubes on an average day, according to PennDOT.

The Liberty Tunnel will be closed in both directions nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday starting the night of April 2 and running through November 2013. Outbound closures will begin about two hours later on nights of Pittsburgh Penguins home games. The closures are part of the $18.8 million fourth phase of work to improve the tunnel, according to the PennDOT office located in Bridgeville. The project includes repair of structural concrete, updating and repair of electrical, lighting and safety systems, refurbishing of the portal buildings and other improvements. Police are cracking down on aggressive drivers traveling down Route 50 near Bridgeville.

South Fayette and Cecil Township police departments are cracking down on aggressive drivers traveling down Route 50 near Bridgeville. The two police departments and PennDOT held a news conference and enforcement event Tuesday on Route 50 in South Fayette Township to highlight the first wave of the aggressive-driving campaign that began on Monday, March 18. More than 350 municipal police forces, with the Pennsylvania State Police, are participating in aggressive-driving activities through April 28. Police will concentrate enforcement efforts on roadways known to have a high number of aggressive-driving crashes.  Aggressive driving includes risky behaviors such as speeding, running red lights and stop signs, tailgating or improper passing. …
