Giant Eagle Ending Foodperks Program

Giant Eagle is ending its popular Foodperks! program. Did you like the grocery store's Foodperks! program and how much did you save by filling up at GetGo gas stations?

Giant Eagle is ending its popular Foodperks! program, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The last day to use any Foodperks! points on your Advantage card will be May 31. However, the last day to earn those discount points by filling up at GetGo gas stations is on Feb. 13. The supermarket/gas station chain's Fuelperks! program will continue, the P-G reports. In fact, starting on Thursday, it will be supplemented by a 3-cent discount on gasoline for Advantage Card holders on the occasions when they don't use Fuelperks! Giant Eagle CEO Laura Karet said that the Foodperks! program had become "a little too complex." The Giant Eagle grocery stores located in this area are in the Chartiers Valley Shopping Center and Virginia Manor Shopping…

Gas Prices Spike in Pittsburgh Before Labor Day

Shell on Painters Run Road, Marathon in Heidelberg and Sunoco off the I-79 Bridgeville exit have the "cheapest" gas around.

Nothing like a like a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico, a refinery fire in Venezuela and an upcoming holiday travel weekend to create the perfect storm for higher gasoline prices. Nationwide, gasoline prices rose a half-cent a gallon to $3.756 on average for regular unleaded, AAA reported. Most prices in the Pittsburgh area are even higher.  "As of Tuesday afternoon four major refineries, totaling more than one-million barrels per day of refining capacity, have announced their planned closure.  These refineries make up about half of the production capacity in the region where Hurricane Isaac is expected to make landfall," AAA spokesman Michael Green said.
