Bridgeville Man Accused of Soliciting Minor For Sex Will Stand Trial

The Bridgeville man accused of soliciting sex from a 15-year-old while at fire hall Bingo is going to trial on all felony charges.

The Bridgeville man accused of soliciting sex from a 15-year-old while at fire hall Bingo is going to trial on all charges. John F. Spang, 54, waived to court felony charges of corruption of minors, criminal use of a communication facility, unlawful contact with minors and criminal solicitation before his preliminary hearing with District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet on Jan. 28. Investigators from the Bridgeville and Allegheny County police departments said Spang starting making sexual advances as the boy was volunteering at the weekly Bingo game at the borough’s fire hall on Dec. 3. He then later called the boy and made sexual advances, investigators said. Police arrested Spang at his Bridgeville apartment on Dec. 7. Spang is free on $5,…

Fire Hall Bingo is Making a Comeback

Heidelberg and Bridgeville are booming with weekly Bingo.

Customers began vanishing from Heidelberg Volunteer Fire Department’s weekly Bingo night not long after new state laws prohibited people from smoking inside. Things got even worse when the new casinos opened a few years ago and started siphoning would-be gamblers who would rather pull a slots lever than mark their Bingo cards. Heidelberg fire Chief Joe Wissel Jr. said they were having such “significant issues” with attendance that the tiny borough’s fire department shut down Bingo in March to regroup and decide if it should be restarted. “We were losing a lot of money, but we decided to reformat it,” Wissel said. “We thought maybe if we give more money away that hopefully we would develop a better crowd. “And it worked.” Now the fire hall …
