Former Scott Township Teen Appears on 'Today' Show to Discuss Sleep Disorder

The Delien family, who talked with Patch about their daughter's struggle with a rare sleep disorder, today appeared on the 'Today' show to promote Kleine-Levin Syndrome awareness.

A former Chartiers Valley student was a featured guest on this morning's Today show, where she talked about her struggle with the rare "Sleeping Beauty Syndrome."  Nichole Delien, a 17-year-old who suffers from Kleine-Levin Syndrome, appeared on the NBC morning show alongside her family. The Deliens, who previously lived in Scott Township talked about Nichole's condition—a rare neurological disorder that causes her to periodically fall asleep for days or weeks at a time.  Watch the family's Today appearance here.  The Delien family discussed Nichole's struggle with Kleine-Levin with Patch earlier this month. Former CV Student with Rare Sleep Syndrome Appears on TV Show

A teenager, whose family recently moved from Scott Township, suffers from a rare and debilitating disease, causing her to go into long periods of deep sleep and lethargy.

Vicki Delien recalls one holiday season when her now 17-year-old daughter Nicole missed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve. The West Allegheny High School student, who suffers from the rare neurological disorder Kleine-Levin Syndrome, slept through the holidays, awaking one day in January when she finally opened Christmas gifts alongside her family.  Delien said her family has grappled with her daughter's debilitating condition, sometimes called "Sleeping Beauty Syndrome," which causes Nicole to periodically fall asleep for days or weeks at a time. I don't know what happened to my first comment on this article. I thought it was deleted of course. Chartiers Valley Colts 2012 Football Schedule

The Chartiers Valley Colts varsity football team plays in the WPIAL Parkway Conference in 2012.

The Chartiers Valley Colts varsity football team starts its 2012 season by moving to a tougher WPIAL conference and facing a variety of new teams. The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League in January realigned its conferences and placed the Colts into a nine-team division that contains several local powerhouses. Chartiers Valley will now play West Allegheny, Montour, Moon, Central Valley, Hopewell, Ambridge, Blackhawk and New Castle. Chartiers Valley Athletic Director Frank Vulcano Jr. said the team welcomes the tougher schedule in the new Parkway Conference. “It’s definitely a new challenge going into the toughest conference in Triple-A,” Vulcano said. “But we’re looking forward to the challenge.” The Chartiers Valley Colts…
