Driver Charged with DUI After Crashing Into Minivan with Disabled Child

Police say a driver who crashed into a minivan with a mother and her disabled son was high on drugs at the time.

Collier Township police have charged a driver who they say was high on drugs when he crashed into a minivan along Vanadium Road in September. Nathan McGuire, 19, of Mt. Lebanon, was driving up Vanadium on Sept. 9 when investigators said he lost control at the railroad tracks in Kirwan Heights and crashed into a minivan going the other way. The woman driving the van had to be cut out of the vehicle and was taken to a Pittsburgh area hospital. Her son in the van, who is disabled, was taken to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. The extent of their injuries is not known. Police said they charged McGuire with driving under the influence of drugs, reckless endangerment and driving on the wrong side of the road.
