It's almost time to break out the matzo. Passover arrives on March 25 this year, when Jews across the world will come together to retell the Exodus story over four cups of wine (or grape juice for those who can't indulge), and of course, a large, festive feast. Passover Traditions As the story goes, during their flight from slavery, the Jews did not have enough time for their dough to rise, resulting in a flaky cracker that is eaten instead of bread for a full week during Passover. The diet changes go beyond bread, however, and depend on family tradition. Trader Joe's Recalls Frozen Chicken Dinner

The product could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, health officials in the U.S. and Canada said.

For the third time this year, a Trader Joe's product has been recalled. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service on Monday announced that Aliya’s Foods Limited, one of Trader Joe's producers, will recall boxes of the "Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice” line, the Huffington Post reported. Aliya's will recall 4,865 pounds of frozen butter chicken and rice imported from Canada because the food may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The product is sold in a 12.5-ounce box. A representative from the Trader Joe's media department said the recall only affects the butter chicken products with the packaging code 30512—a Julian date code indicating that the product was produced on Oct. 31, 2012. Trader Joe's Peanut Butter Recall Expands

Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter has been recalled due to possible salmonella.

A voluntary recall of almond butter and peanut butter manufactured by Sunland Inc. of New Mexico has now expanded to include its cashew butter, tahini and roasted blanched peanut products. Sunland manufactures Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter, which was recalled over the weekend due to possible salmonella contamination.  Nationally, there have been 29 cases of illness with two cases reported in Pennsylvania, according to a state health department statement. This recall is limited to products manufactured between May 1, 2012 and September 24, 2012. Trader Joe’s Recalls Peanut Butter Due to Salmonella

Trader Joe’s Valencia peanut butter may be related to a multi-state outbreak of salmonella.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health is advising consumers that Trader Joe’s Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter made with sea salt may be related to a multi-state outbreak of salmonella. The department is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and public health officials in several states to investigate the outbreak. Nationally, there have been 29 cases of illness with two cases reported in Pennsylvania, according to a health department statement Trader Joe’s has voluntarily removed the product for sale from its stores; however, consumers who have the product in their homes should discard it and should also be aware that this product is sold online through other retail outlets. Customers Pack Trader's Joe's Grand Opening

Early morning shoppers said they've been waiting for a Trader Joe's store to open in the South Hills for a long time.

A line of anxious customers were there as Trader Joe's South Hills opened its doors for the very first time Friday morning, Nov. 4. Inside, each aisle was packed with people. One group of ladies even took pictures with each other holding up products. Many customers called themselves Trader Joe's "fans." "We've been driving all the way to East Liberty once a month. We fill up two carts—one with cold food and one with hot. Now it's less than five minutes away. Now I can buy a little bit at a time," said Lynn Duda of Bethel Park. She was the first customer to step foot into the store. "I have been pushing for this store to come to the South Hills for so long, I never thought it would happen." Grand opening of the new store on Route 19 will be Nov. 4

Trader Joe's, a unique, neighborhood grocery store with foods and beverages from the exotic to the basic, will celebrate the grand opening of a new store located in Upper St. Clair on Friday, Nov. 4 at 8 a.m.  To commemorate the official opening Trader Joe’s Captain (store manager) Jennifer Sourbeck, Regional Vice President Rich Millis and the crew will gather for a ceremonial lei cutting to welcome new customers—"Trader Joe’s style." The celebration will continue throughout the day with live music, food demonstrations and stickers for the kids.
