Rennerdale VFD to Host Dinner for Son of Seton Hill Coach

The Rennerdale Volunteer Fire Department, whose members have a personal connection with the Seton Hill University lacrosse team, will host a dinner to raise money for coach Kristina Quigley's son.

When Seton Hill University’s womens lacrosse team came through the Chartiers Valley area last month, the Rennerdale Volunteer Fire Department gladly opened its doors. Second Assistant Chief Marc Kania has a younger sister on the team, and was happy to host athletes and coaches for a spaghetti dinner before they headed to West Virginia for their next game. The lighthearted dinner made the sting of the following week’s tragedy all the more powerful. Coach Kristina Quigley and her unborn child were killed when the bus carrying the team was involved in an accident on March 16. The bus driver also was killed. Kania’s sister, a sophomore and starting attacker for the team, suffered minor injuries, but survived. “Being with the fire department, …

Spaghetti Dinner Helps Ailing Firefighter

The Bower Hill Fire Department is having a spaghetti dinner Saturday night to help one of their own.

Bower Hill firefighters are rallying around one of their members to help raise money for his medical costs as he waits for kidney and pancreas transplants. Bryan Pritchard has been a firefighter with Bower Hill in Scott Township for nine years and was diagnosed with Stage 5 chronic renal disease in August 2009, according to the department. The operation, which could be two or three years away, typically costs $250,000 and his insurance will only cover about 80 percent of that. So the department is hosting a spaghetti dinner at the fire hall from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $8 for adults and $4 for children. The dinner includes spaghetti and meatball, salad, bread and butter, dessert and a drink. …

Community Rallies Around Fire Victims

Residents raised money for two Patterson Avenue families whose homes were damaged by fire.

The community is rallying around two Bridgeville families whose homes sustained extensive damage during a fire on Sept. 3. A spaghetti dinner on Sept. 18 raised money for the McDermott and Steffl families after a fire began in one of the Patterson Avenue homes and spread to the neighboring house. In addition to the spaghetti dinner, two Chartiers Valley students spent two weeks raising about $1,150 to help the young children who lived in the homes. Matt Mugrage and Trey Imler, both high school sophomores, set out a half-dozen collection jars around local businesses and spent a day collecting money outside Walmart. “When he heard about these families, he thought we should do something,” Dawn Mugrage said about her son’s Colts 4 Kids …
