A South Fayette man who crashed his SUV into Thoms Run stream with his two dogs in the vehicle is being charged for drunken driving. Collier Township police said George Ferguson, 60, was intoxicated when his SUV crashed into the stream on KB Hollow Road on Feb. 4. Neither Ferguson nor his two dogs were injured when the SUV rolled into the stream on the municipal line between Collier and South Fayette townships. Firefighters had to pull Ferguson and the dogs from the wreckage, and had some trouble removing the SUV from the stream. Three men who allegedly stole more than $1,000 worth of scrap metal were easy to spot as they tried to leave a Scott Township industrial park with their loot earlier this month. The rear bumper of their getaway car, filled with the heavy and bulky metal in the trunk, was nearly dragging on the ground as the men left the Super Mill Complex near Carnegie on Dec. 2, Scott Township police said. “It was almost dragging on the ground,” Scott Township police Sgt. Jeff Skees said of the car. The owner of the company, Future All Inc., alerted police when he saw the men leaving the complex with the metal hanging out of the open trunk, Skees said. Carnegie police eventually stopped the car at the Advance Auto Parts store on Washington Avenue. …

A Collier Township man suffered moderate injuries when the car he was driving rolled over on Prestley Road near Bridgeville earlier this month. Collier police said Andrew Nemec, 21, had to be taken to an area hospital with cuts to his face when his vehicle rolled over shortly after 2 a.m. on Oct. 11. Police said they charged Nemec with drunken driving and driving on the wrong side of the road following the early-morning crash near the Collier-Bridgeville municipal building line. A Coca-Cola vending machine was stolen earlier this month in Scott Township and apparently sold for scrap. Scott Township police said the vending machine was discovered missing from the 600 block of Idlewood Avenue on Oct. 9. Police said the machine was left unsecured outside a duplex in the East Carnegie neighborhood. Investigators think the vending machine was later sold for scrap metal. Police said they are continuing to investigate and did not release where the metal was sold or who may have taken it. Police also did not say to which business or organization the vending machine belonged.
