Heidelberg House Destroyed by Fire
Several fire crews battled a building fire on First Street in Heidelberg early Thursday morning.

Fire crews from several departments were dispatched shortly after midnight to the blaze at 476 First St. The building is known to locals as the old Aleski Tavern. High-tension power lines in the neighborhood were affected by the fire, knocking out power along Rt. 50 from from Collier Town Square into Heidelberg. Heidelberg fire Chief Joe Wissel Jr. said no one was injured and the fire had been contained by 2 a.m. Fire officials said the residents were able to escape the blaze and they believe the fire started in the attic of the home. Folks don't always appreciate their local first responders...Incredibly dangerous work. These people answer the call day and night, many times after being at their own jobs all day....Often with no sleep. Take the time to get to know your firefighters, police, etc...Thank them.
