Presto-Sygan Road Finally Reopens

Presto-Sygan Road, which has been closed several times for construction since early 2011, is reopening for good.

Presto-Sygan Road, which has been closed several times for construction since early 2011, is finally reopening for good. PennDOT announced the road that connects South Fayette and Collier townships reopened Thursday night after several stints to repair the damaged road surface and nearby bridge. Rainwater runoff washed away one of the lanes in early 2011, forcing PennDOT to install an alternating stop sign that often backed up traffic. After working on that section twice in late 2011 and over this past summer, PennDOT closed another portion to work on a bridge near Thoms Run Road in September. PennDOT scheduled the new reconstruction project immediately after the previous one because workers were concerned of businesses, recreation fields …

Greentree Road Staying Open For Weekend Construction

Greentree Road in Scott Township will remain open this weekend as construction crews put the finishing touches on roadway rehabilitation project.

There’s good news for motorists who need to use Greentree Road this weekend! Greentree Road will remain open this weekend near Old Washington Pike as construction crews put the finishing touches on roadway rehabilitation project. There will only be minor lane restrictions from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday as crews work on the shoulder of the roadway near Ducky’s Car Wash. Crews are expected to finish the job next weekend. The area had been closed to all traffic the past two weekends so workers could repave the roadway with concrete. The work is part of the $6.8 million reconstruction project of Washington Pike from Bridgeville to Carnegie. Like the Chartiers Valley Patch Facebook page or sign up for our Daily E-mail Newsletter

Potholes and Cracks and Bumps... Oh, My!

PennDOT is encouraging motorists to report potholes and roadway concerns to road workers.

It's freeze-thaw season, which means it's pothole time! PennDOT officials are encouraging motorists to report potholes or other road problems on state-owned roads. “We want our roadway system to be the best it can be, but with a network of 2,568 miles, we can’t be everywhere at once when sudden problems arise,” District 11 Executive Dan Cessna said. “Motorists can help us keep state roads in good shape by reporting any problems they encounter, especially if it involves a safety concern.”  With the frigid temperatures and consistent precipitation that has occurred around the region in recent weeks, potholes, cracking and other roadway deficiencies can occur more rapidly than usual on many area roadways. Callers are asked to be as specific …

PennDOT has closed one of the Bridgeville onramps leading to Interstate 79. Only motorists traveling east on Route 50 from South Fayette toward Bridgeville will be affected by this closure. The northbound ramp on the other side of Route 50 next to Gillece will remain open. None of the exit ramps in that area will be affected. One lane on I-79 near the Bridgeville exit will also closed at all times while crews continue to do work in the area.
