Three women accused of running a prostitution ring out of a Bridgeville massage parlor are going to trial on misdemeanor prostitution charges. Felony charges of prostitution and conspiracy were withdrawn by Allegheny County police during the preliminary hearing with District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet on Monday. However, the three women, Ok Ja Ko, 52, Chong Hee Kil, 57, and Heemae Jong, 58, waived their misdemeanor prostitution charges and are now awaiting trial. The women arrived at district court on Monday afternoon wearing surgical masks, rushing past cameras and television reporters to get into the courtroom. A Bridgeville man who is a registered sex offender for an indecent assault in 2011 was arrested last month and accused of prostitution in the borough. Bridgeville police said they charged Kenneth Capes, 24, with prostitution and criminal solicitation following an incident on Station Street on Feb. 4. Capes allegedly received sex acts from another man, and then that man also gave him DVDs and promised him an additional $80, police said. Police said there later was a disagreement about the money. Police did not identify the other man or say if he would face charges. Police heard rumblings of a prostitution ring at 88 Spa in Bridgeville not long after the massage parlor opened in the borough’s main business district in October 2011. But investigators said they had to be patient to collect evidence and then work with federal authorities to find out if the ring also involved human trafficking or organized crime. “We had info from neighboring businesses that it was pretty obviously what was going on there,” Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said. “But knowing something and proving it are two different things.” By last July, King said they had enough evidence to make a case and contacted the FBI to ramp up the investigation. Three women were arrested and $2,733 in cash was seized from the 88 Spa on Route 50, Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said. Police officers from Bridgeville, Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, and federal agents from the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided the business shortly after noon Tuesday.
