Pet Adoptions: Ralphie Needs a New Home!

Ralphie is 5 years old and his former family told us that he's a 91 pound lap dog.

Say hello to Ralphie! Ralph was adopted from the Animal Rescue League and then turned into another shelter who transferred him back to the ARL. He is now 5 years old and his former family told us that Ralph is a 91 pound lap dog. He got along well with other dogs and children. His family also told the ARL staff that Ralph was mostly housebroken, but that he had an occasional accident. Ralph apparently did not like to be left alone. He would try to escape, bark or chew inappropriate items when left alone. We recommend a home where Ralph would not need to be left alone for long. We also recommend a strong crate and lots of great chew toys for Ralph when he needs to be left alone. Ralph knows quite a few commands and walks surprisingly well …

These siblings from the Animal Rescue League need a home.

Cats Adam and Eve need a home! The almost 3-year-old domestic Shorthair/Mix siblings are at the Animal Rescue League of Western PA because their owner has been hospitalized. The kitties originally were adopted from the shelter as kittens. Eve is very playful, according to volunteers at the shelter. Adam is a little more subdued but responds quickly to petting and a soft word. If you have any questions, email catladycam@gmail.com.

Meet Leonidas! He's a cute 11-month-old Pit Bull Terrier mix who came to Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh as a stray.

Meet Leonidas, a.k.a. Leon! He's a cute 11-month-old Pit Bull Terrier mix who came to Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh as a stray. Like most dogs his age, Leon is very active and could benefit from continued obedience training. Based on observation, he may be house-trained. He loved being with our volunteers getting his pictures taken, and will most likely be a very affectionate companion. Leonidas would be good for a novice owner and folks with an active lifestyle. That cute little face is hard to resist! For inquiries about Leon, contact his volunteer friend Sean at penguinsf@comcast.net. Leon's adoption fee is $115.

Pet Adoptions: Here's Kenny the Cat

This cat has been neutered but not declawed.

This is Kenny, a cat in need of a home. According to his profile on the Animal Rescue League website, when Kenny first arrived at the shelter as a stray, he was extremely ill, but his foster mom nursed him through it to rebound as a happy, healthy cat. "Kenny ... is the perfect combination of affectionate and playful," the rescue league's website states. "He's a friendly boy who loves belly rubs. He also enjoys playing with just about anything—wand toys, balls, laser lights. "Kenny gets along well with other cats, and he often 'mothers' more frightened or hurt cats. Plus, look at that darling little face! How can you resist? "Because Kenny can playfully nibble on the fingers of those he loves, he would probably be best off in a home …

"He has not been declawed, but he has been neutered." Declawing is cruel & can lead to other problems, such as defensive biting. Instead, be diligent in training your cat not to claw furniture. Provide a scratching post. Research how to train & consult a reputable vet for advice.   more ›

Pet Adoptions: Lil' Ling Ling Longing for New Home

This Shar Pei was left at the Animal Rescue League due to landlord issues.

Meet Lil' Ling Ling—a unique Shar Pei mix in need of a "furever" home. The 2 year old was surrendered to the Animal Rescue League due to landlord issues. Her owner said Ling Ling loves car rides and other dogs and cats. She's also house trained. Ling Ling had eye surgery and, as a result, her eyelashes were growing inward and causing some irritation, so Animal Rescue League staff members recommend a home with older children.  One staff member recently took Ling Ling to an adoption event. The staff member said Ling Ling was well behaved. Ling Ling was a bit shy, possibly due to her sore eye, but allowed people to pet her and gave out a lot of kisses. "We think she will make a wonderful companion with the right family with previous dog …

Pet Adoptions: Justice Needs a New Home!

Justice is an Akita/Terrier mix who grabs your attention with his beautiful blue-grey coat, hazel colored eyes and regal ears!

Justice grabs your attention with his beautiful blue-grey coat, hazel colored eyes and regal Shepherd ears. He’s a large breed dog who finds himself at the Animal Rescue League shelter due to his owner's move. His former owner told the shelter volunteers that Justice is extremely loyal and is a terrific companion The ARL recommends that Justice go to a home with children older than 5 because he is very affectionate and strong, and he has not yet been taught not to jump on people. Justice listens well on a walk, wants to please and appears to be a fast learner. He also likes to play with toys. With a little basic training Justice has the potential to be a wonderful family member. Justice is currently spending some time in a foster home, …

This pisses me off, There's no reason to leave a "family member" behind when moving. If you adopt a dog, you adopt for their life.. Not until you want to move or they get older. Justice I hope you get a family that deserves you! ARL I'm willing to plead $15 towards his adoption fee.   more ›

Pet Adoptions: Shepherd Mix Looking for a Home

Ford is a one-year-old Shepherd mix at Animal Rescue League.

According to the Animal Rescue League, one-year-old Ford is a fun-loving and energetic Shepherd mix. He is very sweet and possesses the intelligence that German Shepherds are known for. However, the Rescue League recommends that he attend obedience classes to curb some of his youthful enthusiasm. Because of his high energy level, it is also recommended that Ford not be adopted into a home with small children. Obedience training is an excellent way to bond with your dog, the Rescue League says, and also helps with socialization of your dog with other dogs, and with other people. Animal Rescue League offers training classes at its shelter, and Ford's adoption includes 3 private sessions. Ford appears to like other dogs, although if you have …
