Two Duquesne University professors living in the South Hills–one from Scott Township and another from Mt. Lebanon–were inducted into the school’s Research Hall of Fame last week.
Two Duquesne University professors living in the South Hills–including one from Scott Township–were induced into the school’s Research Hall of Fame last week for their work at the institution. Dr. David Seybert, who lives in Scott Township and has been the dean of the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences since 2000, was inducted for his research and funding in the field on May 31. The school announced that Seybert has been awarded $1.8 million in the past decade for research in science education, diversity initiatives and research. The Fresh Market, a gourmet grocery store, could be coming to Route 19 in Mt. Lebanon.
The Fresh Market could soon be coming to the South Hills. The gourmet supermarket chain is seeking approval from Mt. Lebanon commissioners to demolish the Roth Carpet building at the corner of Washington and Connor roads and build the new grocery store. The Fresh Market received a recommendation for final approval from the Mt. Lebanon Planning Board on April 24. Commissioners are scheduled to vote on the plan on June 12. If The Fresh Market receives final approval in June, representatives said construction would begin as soon as possible. It would be the first store in the Pittsburgh area and the third in Pennsylvania. The Fresh Market's application has been under consideration since last summer. People from Bridgeville, Collier, Heidelberg, Scott, South Fayette, Mt. Lebanon and other South Hills communities paid their respects to those who fought and died for our freedom. Many local residents showed up for parades and memorial services this weekend to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to recognize those who have served or are still serving in the military.
