Montour Dunks Chartiers Valley, 47-40

The Colts held the lead at the half but the tide turned in the Spartans' favor with 2:52 left in the game.

The Chartiers Valley Colts boys’ basketball team fell after the Montour Spartans pulled ahead 47-40 in the final minutes of the WPIAL AAA championship game at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Duquesne Friday night. The game got under way after a short delay and the Colts scored two points within first ten seconds, according to the district’s official Twitter feed at @CVSDcolts. At the end of the first quarter, the Colts were up 18-11. Spencer Casson's 14 points took Chartiers Valley to 29-20 halftime lead over Montour, according to The Almanac's @SHAlmanacSports Twitter feed.  The Colts still held the lead at the end of the third quarter, as the lead was cut to a single point with the Colts 33, Montour 32. Montour Routs Colts in Football Opener

Montour senior running back Julian Durden rushed for 239 yards and scored three touchdowns to help the Spartans defeat the Colts 49-14 in Friday night’s high school football season opener at Chartiers Valley. The two teams most recently played each other in last season's opener when the Spartans defeated the Colts 35-14. Although Montour is ranked first in many local WPIAL AAA football rankings, Chartiers Valley head coach Chris Saluga did not think this home opener would go the same way as last year. “We knew Montour was a good opponent, but we expected to do a lot better,” Saluga said. “We know how we played and now know what to work on.” More than 8,000 Chartiers Valley fans welcomed Montour, and despite the hot and humid night, the …
