Bridgeville Library to Begin Talks with South Fayette

Bridgeville Public Library officials want to meet with their counterparts in South Fayette soon to see if the two groups can share or improve services for their patrons.

The two sides are still trying to figure out a date when they can meet to discuss whether there are mutual benefits to combine activities, collections, accounting services or events. Heat is Turned Up on Scott Township Library

The Scott Township Library’s air conditioning blew out earlier this week, causing them to scramble to find a quick and cheap solution to keep the room cool.

It’s getting really hot in the Scott Township Public Library. The library’s air conditioning literally blew out earlier this week, causing township officials to scramble for a quick and cheap solution to keep the room cool. Township officials are concerned that any delay in the repair with a hot September coming would drive away patrons and make the library staff uncomfortable. “We don’t want them to go without air conditioning,” Commissioner David Jason said. Initial estimates put a quick fix at $4,000 and a total replacement of the 11-year-old air conditioning system at $10,000. The township commissioners, though, thought that complete replacement estimate was too high and asked to get immediate bids. They voted during their Tuesday …

Local Libraries Can't Keep Steamy Novel On Shelves

More that 1,300 people are waiting to borrow "50 Shades of Grey."

If you're looking for a copy of the steamy trilogy, “50 Shades of Grey,” don’t bother going to your local library.  “Nobody in the county has it on their shelf,” said Sandra Collins, executive director of Northland Public Library in McCandless.  Although public libraries in several states have banned the book–some say it is either too sexually explicit or too poorly written–that’s the not case here. There are currently 189 copies shared among 45 libraries in Allegheny County with 1,344 hold requests. “I think people are more interested because of the hype, rather than it being good literature," Collins said. Scott and Bridgeville libraries don't have copies of the book, but South Fayette, Upper St. Clair, Green Tree, Mt. Lebanon, Dormont …
