The family of Jimmy Slack is organizing a concert to remember the Bridgeville man and raise money for charity. The family is holding the second annual "Jams for Jimmy" concert on Feb. 23 at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department’s Chartiers Room. Tickets cost $20 for the all-day event and can be purchased at the door or by contacting the organizers through the “Help find Jimmy Slack” Facebook page. Slack died after going to a concert on the North Side of Pittsburgh in December 2011. Authorities spent weeks searching for him before his body was found in the Ohio River near the Carnegie Science Center on Jan. 23. The family is holding the concert to remember Jimmy and his love for music. “This should be a fun event, for a wonderful cause…

Beginning next weekend, Patch will review a missing persons or cold case homicide from the area.
The Pennsylvania Missing Persons website features the somewhat-haunting sketch of "Beth Doe" on its homepage. Nancy Monahan of Penn Hills, who started and runs the website, chose the sketch because, in nearly four decades and despite social networking and modern forensics, no one has ever been able to determine where the woman came from or who she was. Monahan was intrigued in part because the woman would have been in her own age bracket. The details of the case are rather disturbing. The young woman had been dismembered and mutilated. She and her full-term, unborn child were stuffed in three suitcases and thrown from a bridge along Interstate 80 over the Lehigh River in Carbon County, PA. Police think the killer meant for the suitcases to…

Jimmy Slack's family says he was smart, compassionate and, at times, silly.
The family of Jimmy Slack gathered in their Bridgeville home Tuesday night a day after his body had been found and told stories, wept, shared a few laughs and flipped through old photos of him. “It’s just hard to sort through everything,” said Maureen Shields while looking at the numerous photos of her brother. “We’re going through pictures to make a picture board. It’s just really hard to go through pictures of someone’s entire life and at 25, that’s his entire life.” Pittsburgh police found Slack’s body in the Ohio River nearly two months after he disappeared while attending a concert in Pittsburgh. The family spent each of those 46 days he was missing hoping for a miracle that he would come home. Now they’re trying to share the happy …

The body of Jimmy Slack, who had been missing since Dec. 7, was found Monday in the Ohio River.
The body of Jimmy Slack, the Bridgeville man who had been missing for more than a month, was recovered Monday afternoon on the shore of the Ohio River, multiple police sources confirmed. Pittsburgh police were called to an area near the Carnegie Science Center at around 1:30 p.m. and the description of the person’s clothing matched what Slack was wearing when he disappeared Dec. 7. Pittsburgh police Sgt. Joe Gannon said the crew on a boat that was pulling up to the shore noticed the body and called 911. Bridgeville police Chief Chad King notified the family at their Bridgeville home shortly after. “It was very emotional,” King said. "I think they were still holding out to hope that he would come home.” Police are waiting for an autopsy to …

A month after Jimmy Slack disappeared from a concert in Pittsburgh, his family is increasing the financial reward available to anyone who has information about the missing Bridgeville man. “Any lead is a good lead,” said Maureen Shields, who is Slack’s sister. “We’re still at this. We’re not giving up.” The family decided to increase the reward from $1,000 up to $5,000 in an effort to get any information that might help them find the 25-year-old Bridgeville resident. Slack went missing on Dec. 7 after attending a String Cheese Incident concert at Stage AE on the North Side. Since then, there has been very little information about how he disappeared and Pittsburgh police detectives said few clues are surfacing. Shields said the family …

More than 400 people gathered Thursday night to pray for the safe return of Jimmy Slack and offer comfort to his family. The support from the people who came to Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeville didn’t surprise the Slack family more than two weeks after the 25-year-old disappeared. “It’s meant a whole lot to our family,” said Jim Slack, who is the missing man’s father. “I expected this. All of my friends and people have come out to try to help find my son, and that’s why we’re here: To get the word out to find Jimmy.” The family wore yellow ribbons to show solidarity and spent time speaking to those in attendance following the hour-long vigil. Every seat in the lower level of the church was taken, prompting many to stand in the …

A candlelight vigil is being planned Thursday night for family members and friends to gather and pray for the safe return of Jimmy Slack. The prayer vigil will begin at 7 p.m. outside Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeville. “It’s about strength and courage and peace, because this is Christmas and a hard time of year to go through this,” said Maureen Shields, who is the missing Bridgeville man’s sister. “What more can you ask for? We can ask for miracles, but right now we’re just asking for strength.” Slack has been missing since Dec. 7 after attending the String Cheese Incident concert at Stage “AE” on Pittsburgh’s North Side. Although the family and police detectives organized several searches for him over the past two weeks, clues …

Investigators have put together a timeline leading up to Jimmy Slack's disappearance.
UPDATE: Pittsburgh police recovered Jimmy Slack's body from the Ohio River on Jan. 23. This story was posted on Dec. 16 - Pittsburgh police officers spent six hours Thursday scouring the North Side and nearby riverbanks with cadaver dogs and plan to expand their search for Jimmy Slack using rescue boats Friday. Lt. Daniel Herrmann, an investigator with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police’s missing person’s unit, said investigators have no new leads in the Bridgeville man’s disappearance, but are still holding out hope that Slack might be found alive. “We’re still looking,” Herrmann told Chartiers Valley Patch. “Our plans are going out with a river rescue boat to examine the banks all the way down to McKees Rocks. Bridgeville did some excellent…

Investigators still have very few clues in the disappearance of a Bridgeville man nearly a week after he vanished while at a concert in Pittsburgh. Jimmy Slack went missing after a String Cheese Incident concert on Dec. 6 at Stage “AE” on the North Side, but police and his family are still working hard to find any information about where he might be located. “We are pretty much exhausting everything we can do as a department,” Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said, adding they’ve assigned two officers to the investigation. “We’re working our tails off on this.” King said he is especially concerned because the 25-year-old's cell phone has been off since the time he went missing and he has not used any of his bank cards. “It’s just a bad …

Police are searching for a 25-year-old Bridgeville man who went missing early Wednesday morning after a concert in Pittsburgh. Jim Slack was last seen at Stage “AE” when he was separated from a friend while they were at a concert inside the North Side venue. His sister, Maureen Shields, said his family is desperately searching for him and asking the public for help. They’ve already had radio stations alert the public, and friends on Facebook are making others aware of his description. “It sure is awesome everyone is getting the word out and trying to help,” Shields said. “This is very scary and we just want to find him.” Bridgeville police said Slack is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds, has blond hair and a light beard. He …
