Win $100,000 With Patch's 'Deck the House' Contest

Decorating your home for the holidays? If so, you could win a hefty prize!

Are you ready to get your Griswold on? Does your house outshine the others in your neighborhood when it comes to holiday decorations? If the answer is yes, starting Dec. 8, you can enter Patch's Deck the House Contest for a chance to win $100,000 for the local public school system, $500 toward your electric bill or bragging rights in your neighborhood. The contest will run until Dec. 26 and users will vote for the best-decked house in their town. Christmas Card Delivers Hope

This third-grader's Christmas card delivers more than holiday cheer. It also delivers hope to those suffering from cancer.

Emily Washburn wanted to make a difference when she designed a Christmas card that won a contest organized by Edgar Snyder & Associates. The South Fayette Elementary School third-grader submitted her Christmas card that had a rainbow of different colored ribbons with one wish for the holidays: To cure all cancer. It was one of four winning designs selected by the Pittsburgh-based law firm that will be featured on their annual holiday cards. Emily was proud of her card’s message, especially after her school had just spent October raising awareness for breast cancer. “I think I put in a lot of effort because I had to draw the Christmas tree and the angels and the ribbons,” the 8-year-old said. Enjoy the Holidays at the Neville House

Woodville Plantation will have various 18th century holiday events on Nov. 20.

The holidays are fast approaching and re-enactors at the Neville House will demonstrate how early Americans celebrated Christmas in the 18th century. The Woodville Plantation is hosting its annual Holidays at the Neville House from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20. The re-enactors will give information about the historic house, explain how the Neville’s celebrated the holidays and offer a candlelight tour after the sun goes down. Visitors can learn how holiday customs such as Twelfth Night, Boxing Day and the firing of the Christmas guns are different than modern-day celebrations. “The celebrations of an 18th century Christmas will come to life with costumed guides, holiday displays and traditional decorations,” according to a press …

Hartwood Acres Welcomes the Holidays

The 7th annual event allows people to walk through the park and enjoy its celebration of lights.

The Allegheny County Parks Department is hosting "Walk through the Lights," where visitors can experience Hartwood Acres' famous UPMC Celebration of Lights up close and beautiful. The park is located in Allison Park. The event will be on Wednesday. There is no timing—this is a walk or run purely for fun.  Free glow sticks and jingle bells will be provided for all participants. Refreshments also will be available along the way.  The path is a 3.2 mile loop with several short-cuts built in that reduce the distance to as little as 2.5 miles. There is no set start time, and the path will be closed to vehicles on this day.
