Greentree Road Staying Open For Weekend Construction

Greentree Road in Scott Township will remain open this weekend as construction crews put the finishing touches on roadway rehabilitation project.

There’s good news for motorists who need to use Greentree Road this weekend! Greentree Road will remain open this weekend near Old Washington Pike as construction crews put the finishing touches on roadway rehabilitation project. There will only be minor lane restrictions from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday as crews work on the shoulder of the roadway near Ducky’s Car Wash. Crews are expected to finish the job next weekend. The area had been closed to all traffic the past two weekends so workers could repave the roadway with concrete. The work is part of the $6.8 million reconstruction project of Washington Pike from Bridgeville to Carnegie. Like the Chartiers Valley Patch Facebook page or sign up for our Daily E-mail Newsletter

Do you know who owns this gray cat found wandering on Greentree Road in Scott?

Animal Control is looking for the owner of a cat found wandering on Greentree Road near McMonagle Avenue. The adult cat, which is gray with markings on his chin and feet, was recovered this week after a Scott Township resident said it was “hanging around” the home for a few days. The cat finally found its way into the person’s Greentree Road home and was taken to Animal Control. Animal Control workers are not sure if the cat is a female or neutered male. The cat did not have a collar, identification or an ID chip. @ella... I would contact the that non-emergency dispatch number and inquire about the cat, or ask them if it will eventually be put up for adoptions. This little guy was adopted a few days after Animal Control picked him up... http://chartiersvalley.patch.com/articles/lost-dog-finds-his-new-home   more ›

Get Ready for Orange Cones on Greentree Road

Get ready for those dreaded orange construction cones on Greentree Road later this summer.

Scott Township Commissioners discussed whether a daylight or evening timeline would work best for upcoming work on water lines along Greentree Road.  Signs announcing the August start of the work will likely appear next week along the road. Several commissioners expressed concern with trying to have the work done at night to alleviate traffic tieups only to aggravate residents who live right along the work's path and might be bothered by late night noise. Commissioners decided to stipulate that crews work during daylight hours in residential areas and allow nighttime work in commercial zones. It's Not Easy Being Green Commissioner David Jason proposed a green space area might be created in East Carnegie where two vacant properties have …

Scott Township police Chief Jim Secreet was nearly electrocuted when he ran onto Greentree Road to stop passing cars from driving over the fallen power lines.

A lightning strike on Greentree Road closed the major Scott Township roadway for about an hour Tuesday afternoon. WPXI-TV reported that shortly after the strike, Scott Township police Chief Jim Secreet ran onto Greentree Road, frantically waving his arms trying to stop passing cars from driving over the fallen power lines. The live wires suddenly sparked with Secreet nearby, causing him to run from the intersection and away from danger. “Whether water hit it or not, something made it arc again and the loud vibration told me it was a very powerful voltage,” Secreet said to WPXI-TV. “I’ve never seen voltage come out of a line like that in 30 years of police work. Never, anything like that, it was definitely the loudest wire I’ve ever heard…
