Five unlocked gym lockers at LA Fitness became a treasure trove of stolen goods for a thief on Jan. 9. Collier police said five people had car keys or valuables stolen from their lockers because they didn’t secure them at the gym located inside Great Southern Shopping Center. One person told police that he left his keys in his locker, and returned to his car to find $300 missing with the keys sitting inside. Another person told police a black backpack was taken with his keys, although nothing was missing from his car. Police said another man told them that his Nike “Jordan” jacket and shirt were taken from his locker. PennDOT canceled the work due to expected inclement weather.
Plans for weekend construction work on Route 50 and on the Greentree Road bridge have been canceled due to the chance of inclement weather. The workers were to be removing and replacing strip seal dams on the bridge that carries Greentree Road over Chartiers Creek in Heidelberg. Other work on Route 50 has also been canceled, PennDOT announced Friday morning. However, crews are still expected to do pipework along Route 50 in front of Great Southern Shopping Center. There will be single-lane restrictions from 8 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday. Motorists should expect delays and changing traffic patterns when traveling through that area this weekend. Bottom Dollar Food, a discount supermarket chain based in North Carolina, is opening a dozen new stores in the Pittsburgh area, including two along Route 50.
