Bridgeville Library Holding 'Taste of the Town' Fundraiser

The Bridgeville Public Library is holding a “Taste of the Town” fundraiser that will allow guests to try a wide range of food from nearly a dozen area eateries.

The Bridgeville Public Library is holding a “Taste of the Town” fundraiser that will allow guests to try a wide range of food from nearly a dozen area eateries. Tickets are $50 and allow people to taste food from the Batter & Dough Bakery, Bubba’s Gourmet Burghers, Burgh’s Pizza & Wing, Calabria’s, Country Style Pizza, Cucina Bella, Piccolina’s, Portman’s, Shelby’s Station and Two Brothers Bar-B-Q. There will also be live music, and wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for guests. The fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, April 13 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department’s Chartiers Room. All money raised at the “Taste of the Town” will go directly to the Bridgeville Public Library.

Photographer Launches Fundraiser to Help Heidelberg Fire Victims

The Adkins family lost their home and all of their possessions after fire destroyed their Heidelberg home early Thursday morning. Friend and photographer Dean Beattie writes about the loss and his fundraiser to help the family recover.

Jason and I have been close friends for over 20 years. There isn't a major life event we haven't been through together. From the skateboard injuries, the losses and triumphs on the soccer field, the loss of our mothers, our weddings, the birth of our children. His father, Walt, and his deep philosophical conversations, giving me employment when I was out of work, his warped sense of humor, and his ability to make the best of the worst while keeping a smile on his face. Scott Township Woman Organizing Fundraiser for Thyroid Cancer Research

Christine Sypien of Scott Township is hoping a happy hour Thursday night will help raise awareness of a cause that hits home for her. The Butterfly Bandits will hold a fundraiser at Cain's Saloon in Dormont to support thyroid cancer research.

A Scott Township woman is hoping a happy hour Thursday night will help raise awareness of a cause that hits home for her. Christine Sypien of Scott Township is hosting the Butterfly Bandits’ Happy Hour for a Cure at Cain’s Saloon in Dormont on Thursday to raise funds and awareness for thyroid cancer research. Sypien, a three-year survivor of thyroid cancer, is in remission while her fellow charity organizer, Donna Terlecki of Brookline, is also is a survivor of a different type of thyroid cancer. The Bridgeville Public Library is hold “A Winter Margaritaville” fundraiser on Feb. 23.

The Bridgeville Public Library is hold “A Winter Margaritaville” fundraiser on Feb. 23. The “Winter Margaritaville” is part of a once-a-month fundraising event to help the library bring in more money. You can “BYOB” or there will be margaritas available for donations. The event begins at the library at 7 p.m. with John McDonald and the Mango Men. Tickets are $30 and are available at the Bridgeville Public Library. Cash or credit cards are accepted. Eat’n Park Continues Caring for Kids Fundraising Campaign

Guests can purchase a $2 raffle ticket at any Eat’n Park restaurant, including the one in Kirwan Heights, for a chance to win a new 2013 Ford Escape.

Just a few weeks remain in the 34th annual Eat’n Park Caring for Kids Campaign to raise funds for children’s hospitals throughout the region. Through Dec. 18, guests can purchase a $2 raffle ticket at any Eat’n Park restaurant, including the one in Kirwan Heights, for the chance to win a new 2013 Ford Escape. The goal is to top last year’s record-breaking raffle ticket sales, which totaled more than $140,000 in donations. New 2013 Ford Escape SE 4WD vehicles, provided by the Neighborhood Ford Store, are parked at Eat’n Park restaurants to help promote the campaign and remind guests to purchase their raffle tickets. Steelers, Penguins & Celebrities to Visit Hollywood Theater

A movie event Friday night with special guests including Steelers, Penguins, actors and more will benefit the Red Cross and Hurricane Sandy victims.

A star-studded evening at Dormont’s Hollywood Theater will raise money for the Red Cross, and for victims of Hurricane Sandy who still are recovering from the storm. A special showing of the independent film “Christmas in Compton,” which opened in theaters last week, will be held at 6 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 16. “Christmas in Compton,” a comedy co-produced by Pittsburgh natives Paula Gregg and Susan Burig, is about a father-son duo and their community fighting to save their Christmas tree lot after a bad business deal. The movie stars Keith David as the father, Eric Roberts as a sleazy music executive, and Omar Gooding as the son. Pittsburgh’s Day of Giving charity fundraiser for western Pennsylvania is happening for 24 hours today! The fundraiser by PittsburghGives began at midnight Wednesday and will go until 11:59 p.m. The minimum gift per organization is $25. The maximum gift that an individual can give per organization that will be matched is $10,000. Non-profits will receive a check with total donations and Pittsburgh Foundation match within 30 days of Day of Giving. There are hundreds of organizations and non-profits that are eligible for the Day of Giving in the region. A complete list of all the groups can be found by clicking on this link. Pilates Fundraiser Benefiting Thyroid Cancer Research

A Scott Township woman who is a three-year survivor of thyroid cancer is organizing a fundraiser at Fitness Fanatics to raise money and awareness for the fight against thyroid cancer.

A Scott Township woman who is a three-year survivor of thyroid cancer is trying to raise money and awareness for the fight against the disease. Christine Sypien is organizing the Pilates and More for a Cure fundraiser on Sept. 29 at Fitness Fanatics in Great Southern Shopping Center. The event will go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offer food, door prizes, a Chinese auction and speakers talking about thyroid cancer. Sypien hopes it will raise awareness about the disease and allow people to share their stories and offer strength to others. “It’s a goal that I have,” she said. “I educate a lot of people through Facebook. A lot about what I’ve learned and what I’ve experienced.” The fundraiser costs $20 per person and you can either buy tickets …

Nearly a hundred people spent Saturday night listening to good music at the new Bridgeville Public Library. The library fundraiser pre-sold at least 50 tickets and more people were streaming in through the doors during the charity concert by Kim Losego and his band. Joyce Heinrich, who is the library’s new fundraising organizer, welcomed the crowd and said events like these will expand the uses of the building and make it more of a community center. “The Bridgeville Library has evolved into something more than just a place to borrow books,” Heinrich said. “We have a chance to build this library into something more.” Local businesses such as Burgh’s, Serafina’s, Cupcakes ‘n At and Philly Pretzel Factory brought food for the event.
