Frankenstorm has gobbled up Trick-or-Treat for most South Hills communities. The high winds, heavy rain and potential flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Sandy have forced nearly every town to reschedule its Trick-or-Treat times. By 10:30 a.m. Monday, Bridgeville, Collier Township and Heidelberg had already rescheduled their Trick-or-Treat times from Halloween to Saturday night. South Park has rescheduled its Trick-or-Treat to Saturday afternoon. After initially planning to hold Trick-or-Treat on Oct. 31, Scott Township, Mt. Lebanon, Green Tree and Bethel Park all reconsidered and announced that their towns have pushed it back to Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Town officials in South Fayette also announced that the township would change …

The remnants of Hurricane Sandy whipped through western Pennsylvania and drenched the region, but left most area communities unscathed overnight. There were numerous reports of downed trees and powerlines, but the damage did not appear to be catastrophic or widespread. The Chartiers Valley School District canceled classes Tuesday due to the inclement weather. Meanwhile, most South Hills communities postponed their Halloween Trick-or-Treat until Saturday night. Duquesne Light reported about 650 customers were without power late Monday night, although most were in sporadic areas around Allegheny and Beaver counties. Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald today declared a countywide disaster emergency to enable county and municipal governments to respond effectively to the impact of Hurricane Sandy. The storm is still forecast to impact our area, and watches for flooding, high wind and snow are now in effect. The time frame for any significant weather should be late today through Thursday, with the heaviest rainfall and strongest winds expected tonight through much of the day Tuesday. Threats include flooding, with small creeks, streams and areas of poor drainage causing issues earlier this week, followed by possible river flooding later in the week. Winds will be sustained at 25-35 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph, which will likely cause damage …

Forecasters expect as much as 2-3 inches of rain over the next several days, and snow showers moving in by Tuesday night after Hurricane Sandy makes landfall on the East Coast.
While the U.S. East Coast prepares for what forecasters say could be a storm of "historic" proportions, emergency management officials are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best for the storm dubbed "Frankenstorm". A hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service early Saturday warns that prolonged rainfall is expected for the first half of the week. "That rain may be heavy at times on Monday night and Tuesday and runoff may cause flooding of small streams," the weather service website states. "The potential for river flooding will have to be monitored during the second half of the week."
