A new Jazzercise fitness center is opening on Washington Avenue in Scott Township later this month.

A new Jazzercise fitness center is opening in Scott Township later this month. The center that teaches the high-tempo dance fitness routine will hold a grand opening “Girls Night Out” ceremony on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at its new location at 1100 Washington Avenue near Carnegie. The center offers 42 classes each week and will have a special for new customers that removes the normal $50 initiation fee for new members if they join from Dec. 1 to 3 during it’s Grand Opening sale. Illegal Dumping a Big Problem in Collier

Collier officials are trying to combat 'open dumping season' in the township's rural areas with tougher fines.

With its rural landscape and country roads, Collier Township has always been a popular spot for people to illegally dump garbage and used building materials. So the township commissioners are now looking to clean up dump sites, step up enforcement and strengthen the fines. “We have 13-square miles and a lot of country and a lot of rural roads,” township Manager Sal Sirabella said. “It’s been open dumping season in Collier for years because we have so many rural areas.” Sirabella said during the township’s Wednesday night agenda meeting that the current $1,000 fine for dumping is too lenient, and he suggested that a $2,500 penalty would be more of a deterrent. So why were contractors permitted to dump construction debris from Providence Point (the old John Kane Hospital site in Scott Twp) along the Panhandle Trail near the Rennerdale Station? I don't think the trail was meant to be a dump site for contractors. Not only is this unsightly, but it poses a danger to the children who play on it. Please work on getting this cleaned up.
