Kane Hospital Might Add Dementia Wing

Kane Hospital in Scott Township is expected to build a new wing that specializes in the treatment of people suffering from dementia.

Kane Hospital in Scott Township is expected to build a new wing that specializes in the treatment of people suffering from dementia, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting. Allegheny County wants to spend $1 million to reconstruct a part of the hospital that will add 45 beds. The county wants to build the wing so it is secure for patients with Alzheimer’s and other issues related to dementia, according to the Post-Gazette. If approved by Allegheny County Council, the hospital could open the wing by next fall. Giant Eagle's Expansion at Virginia Manor Halted

The expansion of the Giant Eagle in Virgina Manor has hit a roadblock and no one knows why.

Giant Eagle announced last year it planned to expand its grocery store in Virginia Manor by 6,000 feet to accommodate more customers by the end of 2012. But more than a year after that decision, which led to the closure or transfer of several other stores in the strip mall, the expansion project is delayed for a variety of reasons A Giant Eagle spokesman said construction probably won't be completed until mid-2013. However, a company spokesman told Chartiers Valley Patch in July 2011 that they expected to complete the work by the end of 2012. A couple of storefronts that connect to the Giant Eagle have been empty for a year and it's not clear why the expansion has been delayed. In fact, Mt. Grocery store expansion will push Hollywood Tans to Collier Town Square.

Giant Eagle’s expansions plans in the Virginia Manor shopping center is leading to growth in Collier Town Square. As Giant Eagle prepares to add 6,000 square feet to its Mt. Lebanon location on Cochran Road, Starbucks will be forced to move a few doors down to the former Hollywood Tans suite. Meanwhile, the tanning salon will reopen Sept. 1 in Collier Town Square. “The timeline is still being finalized, but we hope to have the work complete by late 2012,” said Dick Roberts, a spokesman for Giant Eagle.
