Pittsburgh Light Up Night Parking, Road Closures and Detours

Light Up Night in the City of Pittsburgh is today, Friday, Nov. 16. Closures

Tonight is the 52nd annual Light Up Night in the City of Pittsburgh. Although it’s exciting to kick off the holiday festivities, there are a few parking restrictions and road closures to be aware of if you're headed Downtown from the South Hills Pittsburgh police recommend that visitors use parking garages and surface lots to ensure that visitors aren’t parked in a restricted area. They also want you to be safe while you’re Downtown, and remind visitors to remove valuables from view and keep vehicles locked. Scott Township Octoberfest Schedule

Scott Township’s Octoberfest celebration is scheduled for Oct. 13 at Scott Park.

Scott Township’s 12th annual Octoberfest celebration is scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 13 at Scott Park. There is a full schedule events that includes music, dancing, hayrides, games, food and, of course beer! Collier Oktoberfest Events Schedule

Collier Township’s Oktoberfest celebration will be Sept. 29. Check out the events, musical acts and food that will be at the daylong celebration.

Collier Township’s Oktoberfest celebration will be Sept. 29. The daylong celebration will go from noon to 11 p.m. and be held in the municipal building’s lower parking lot in the rear. There will be food, music, and activities for the whole family. According to Collier Township officials, there will be “lots of food and fun for everyone.” Authentic German beer will be served by the Pittsburgh Bottleshop Café, ribs on the grill by Texas Roadhouse and other favorite German foods will be available. Heidelberg Oktoberfest Events Schedule

The Heidelberg Oktoberfest celebration is scheduled for Sept. 29 at Heidelberg Park!

Heidelberg’s second annual Oktoberfest celebration is scheduled for Sept. 29 at Heidelberg Park. There are a full schedule events that includes music, dancing, games, food and, of course beer! The events will go from 1 to 8 p.m. with numerous bands and activities during the day, and finish with fireworks to end the festivities. Last year's Oktoberfest was moved into the Heidelberg fire hall because of rain, but organizers are hoping for better weather this year! Bridgeville Public Library officials want to meet with their counterparts in South Fayette soon to see if the two groups can share or improve services for their patrons.

Bridgeville Public Library officials plan to meet with their counterparts in South Fayette soon to see if the two groups can share or improve services for their patrons. The two sides are still trying to figure out a date when they can meet to discuss whether there are mutual benefits to combine activities, collections, accounting services or events. Allegheny County Library Association Executive Director Marilyn Jenkins attended Bridgeville library’s Tuesday night board meeting to see if her organization could facilitate a meeting or the merging of some services. Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) is offering the chance to do just that during 2012 RADical Days, which runs from Sept. 20 to Oct. 13. New Events Coming to Farmers Market

At least a dozen small business owners will be at Tuesday’s farmers market to “meet and greet” shoppers.

A few new attractions are coming to the Bridgeville Farmers Market. At least a dozen small business owners from Bridgeville’s main drag will be at Tuesday’s farmers market to “meet and greet” shoppers. Liz Calabro, who helps organize community events such as the farmers market, said the vendors will be handing out informational pamphlets and talking with residents, but won’t be selling any products. She said it’s an opportunity to promote the many small businesses that are located throughout town. “It’s a good way for the customers to meet the retailers in town and find out what they’re about without any sales pressure,” Calabro said. “And it’s a good way for retailers to shake hands with customers in our town.” The farmers market is every…

Area residents showed up for Memorial Day parades and services to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We've posted photos from the various events, but we also are encouraging you to upload your own photos.

People from Bridgeville, Collier, Heidelberg, Scott, South Fayette, Mt. Lebanon and other South Hills communities paid their respects to those who fought and died for our freedom. Many local residents showed up for parades and memorial services this weekend to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to recognize those who have served or are still serving in the military. Hanukkah Services and Events

The Festival of Lights began Tuesday and area congregations are having a variety of events and services.

Hanukkah began Tuesday and area congregations and Jewish community centers are preparing for the Festival of Lights this week with dinners, menorah lightings and services. Bethel El Congregation on Cochran Road in Scott Township kicks off the holiday with its Tikki Chanukah dinner at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday Temple Emanuel on Bower Hill Road in Mt. Lebanon will have a Chanukah dinner and candle lighting Wednesday a 6 p.m. It will also have regular services Friday night. Those attending can bring their menorahs for a lighting before the services begin at 7:30 p.m. A worker at the Ahavath Achim Congregation in Carnegie said they will “just be having our regular stuff” during the week.
