Trio Accused of Retail Theft Spree at Several Area Stores

Three people face numerous charges after Scott Township police said they stole various items from stores at the Greentree Road Shopping Center and two other plazas. Read about that and other crime news in the weekly Scott Township police blotter.

Three people face numerous charges after Scott Township police said they stole various items from stores at the Greentree Road Shopping Center and two other plazas. Police said Micaela Carpenter, 27, of Pittsburgh, Precious Green, 18, of Wilkinsburg, and Eric Swan, 26, of Pittsburgh, went into the Papermart and Marshall’s store and took several items from the store on Feb. 28. The trio also allegedly possessed devices to try to avoid setting off the security sensors. Upon searching their vehicle, investigators said they found more than $2,000 worth of items from stores in Robinson and North Fayette. Registered Sex Offender Arrested for Prostitution in Bridgeville

A Bridgeville man who is a registered sex offender for an indecent assault in 2011 was arrested last month and accused of prostitution in the borough.

A Bridgeville man who is a registered sex offender for an indecent assault in 2011 was arrested last month and accused of prostitution in the borough. Bridgeville police said they charged Kenneth Capes, 24, with prostitution and criminal solicitation following an incident on Station Street on Feb. 4. Capes allegedly received sex acts from another man, and then that man also gave him DVDs and promised him an additional $80, police said. Police said there later was a disagreement about the money. Police did not identify the other man or say if he would face charges. Driver Accused of DUI After Crashing with 5-Year-Old Daughter in Car

A Pittsburgh man was allegedly high on marijuana when he crashed on Campbells Run Road with his 5-year-old daughter in the car. Read about that and other crime news in the weekly Collier Township police blotter.

A Pittsburgh man was allegedly high on marijuana when he crashed near the Parkway West in Collier with his 5-year-old daughter in the car. Collier Township police said they responded to a crash on Campbells Run Road around 3 a.m. on Feb. 15 and found the driver, John Gramz, 33, apparently under the influence of drugs. His car had crashed into a guardrail and sustained damage to the front fender and wheel, police said. Police said they found Gramz’s 5-year-old daughter in the car during the early-morning crash. Neither of them was injured in the crash. Gramz was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, child endangerment and marijuana possession. Attempted Break-In Leads to Gun Charges in Bridgeville

A caller reporting to police three people were trying to break-in to their Bridgeville home led to multiple arrests on gun charges. Bridgeville police said they received the call on Feb. 3 from a resident in the 100 block of Union Street that three people were trying to get into the home. “One of the people was a drug dealer known to carry a gun,” Bridgeville police said in a press release emailed to the media. An officer responding to the call saw a car leaving the area and stopped it, holding it at gunpoint until other officers arrived. A South Fayette man who crashed his SUV into Thoms Run stream with his two dogs in the vehicle is being charged for drunken driving. Collier Township police said George Ferguson, 60, was intoxicated when his SUV crashed into the stream on KB Hollow Road on Feb. 4. Neither Ferguson nor his two dogs were injured when the SUV rolled into the stream on the municipal line between Collier and South Fayette townships. Firefighters had to pull Ferguson and the dogs from the wreckage, and had some trouble removing the SUV from the stream. Police officers in Scott Township and Heidelberg had a busy weekend with DUI patrols. Police arrested three drivers on DUI charges and said a Scott Township man was caught urinating beside Greentree Road.

Three drivers were arrested on Friday and Saturday in those two towns during the dedicated roving patrols in the South Hills. In fact, Scott Township police said their two DUI arrests involved crashes. Scott Township police said they charged Zachary Gleason, 25, of Collier, with drunken driving following a crash on Washington Avenue on Feb. 15. The following day, police said they arrested Gary Broyles, 51, of Heidelberg, with drunken driving after a crash on Superior Street. Women Accused of Stealing $500 of Clothes from Walmart

Two women are accused of stealing nearly $500 worth of clothing from Walmart. Scott Township police said they charged Carlee Windsor, 22, of Pittsburgh, and India Lee, 20, of Carnegie, with retail theft for allegedly shoplifting the clothes on Feb. 11. Police said they also charged Lee with trespassing, false ID to police and child endangerment. Lee brought her 2-year-old child in a stroller while participating in the alleged retail theft, police said. Police Planning DUI Patrols in the South Hills

Numerous police departments from across the South Hills are planning to participate in roving DUI patrols this weekend.

Numerous police departments from across the South Hills are planning to participate in roving DUI patrols Friday night and early Saturday morning. Police officers from Bridgeville, Scott, Heidelberg, Collier, South Fayette, Mt. Lebanon, Castle Shannon, Baldwin Township, Dormont and Green Tree will be out on patrol looking for impaired drivers. However, there will not be any stationary checkpoints on any roads throughout the night, police said. This event is in conjunction with the Mt Lebanon Area DUI Task Force and funded through the Pennsylvania DUI Association with grants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A Crafton area woman accused of assault, terroristic threats and illegally carrying a firearm will stand trial on most of the charges. Mary E. Carnahan, 52, was held for court on a felony charge of carrying a firearm without a license and misdemeanor counts of weapons possession, simple assault, reckless endangerment and terroristic threats. A felony aggravated assault charge was withdrawn during her preliminary court hearing with District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet on Feb. 11.
