Three Drivers Arrested During Weekend DUI Patrols in Scott and Heidelberg

Police officers in Scott Township and Heidelberg had a busy weekend with DUI patrols. Police arrested three drivers on DUI charges and said a Scott Township man was caught urinating beside Greentree Road.

Three drivers were arrested on Friday and Saturday in those two towns during the dedicated roving patrols in the South Hills. In fact, Scott Township police said their two DUI arrests involved crashes. Scott Township police said they charged Zachary Gleason, 25, of Collier, with drunken driving following a crash on Washington Avenue on Feb. 15. The following day, police said they arrested Gary Broyles, 51, of Heidelberg, with drunken driving after a crash on Superior Street. Two Heidelberg residents who were arrested for drunken driving in September waived their right to a preliminary hearing and will head to trial on the charges.

Two Heidelberg residents who were arrested for drunken driving in September waived their right to a preliminary hearing and will head to trial on the charges. Both waived the charges before their preliminary hearings with District Judge Gary Zyra on Nov. 15. Donald Byerly Jr., 52, was arrested on Sept. 21 by Scott Township police, according to court records. He waived the DUI charges to trial, although charges of careless driving and accident to unattended property were withdrawn. Michael Utchel, 33, was arrested on Sept. 22 by Heidelberg police, according to court documents. Heidelberg police said they arrested two motorists on drunken driving charges this month.

Heidelberg police said they arrested two motorists on drunken driving charges this month. Police said they charged Raymond Barringer, 33, of Clairton, with DUI and other motor vehicles. Police said they stopped Barringer’s car at Fourth and Railroad streets in the early hours of Oct. 7. On Oct. 12, police said the arrested and charged Steven Falk, 33, of Pittsburgh, with DUI, driving on a suspended license and suspended registration. Two people face DUI charges following traffic stops over the weekend in Bridgeville and Heidelberg. Bridgeville police said they stopped 34-year-old borough resident Dan Heaps around 10 p.m. on Sept. 22. Heaps was charged with drunken driving during the traffic stop on Dewey Avenue, Bridgeville police said. Earlier that day, Heidelberg police said they stopped 33-year-old borough resident Michael Utchet on Ellsworth Avenue and charged him with DUI. A Washington County man faces DUI charges after Bridgeville police said he crashed into another car on Washington Avenue in the middle of the afternoon. Police said they were called to a crash shortly before 1 p.m. on Aug. 18 in the 400 block of Washington Avenue and noticed one of the drivers might be impaired. John Flatz, 56, of South Strabane, failed a field sobriety test, police said, and was charged with DUI, prohibited acts and reckless driving. Dozens of police officers conducted one of the largest sobriety checkpoints in the South Hills on Wednesday night when they patrolled Route 50 in Bridgeville.

Dozens of police officers conducted one of the largest sobriety checkpoints in the South Hills on Wednesday night when they patrolled Route 50 in Bridgeville. The officers stopped 35 motorists on Washington Pike near Bridgeville Auto from 7:30 p.m. to shortly after 11 p.m. Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said the DUI checkpoint netted one arrest for driving under the influence of drugs, while officers issues 13 citations, wrote 15 warnings for expired inspection or registration tags and towed five vehicles. Another person was arrested for driving with altered tags. Just scan your license plate and they can tell if your registration is expired. Even thought they got them for the narcotic traffiskers and wanted felons. Just another tax collection tool. Five of the motorists waived their right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet on June 18. Another man challenged the charges, but McGraw-Desmet held him for trail. A 69-year-old woman is accused of road rage while trying to leave Raceway Plaza in Scott. Also in the police blotter, a man is arrested after allegedly trying to break into a Heidelberg apartment.

Police in Pittsburgh and the South Hills will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols this Memorial Day weekend.

Police in Pittsburgh and the South Hills will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols this Memorial Day weekend. The patrols will be in place between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. throughout the South Hills and West End section of Pittsburgh. In addition, the South Hills Area DUI Task Force, which includes Bridgeville, Collier, Heidelberg, Scott, Mt. Lebanon, South Fayette, Castle Shannon and Baldwin, will begin a summer-long intensive DUI enforcement. Municipal and state police will increase sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols throughout the state.
