A Mt. Lebanon teen police say was high on drugs when he crashed into a minivan on Vanadium Road in Kirawn Heights is heading to trial on DUI charges. The most serious charges, however, were withdrawn.
A Mt. Lebanon teen accused of being high when police say he crashed into a minivan on Vanadium Road in Kirawn Heights is heading to trial on DUI charges. Nathan L. McGuire, 19, waived to court charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, reckless driving and other traffic citations. However, two counts of reckless endangerment were withdrawn before his preliminary hearing with District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet on Jan. 7. McGuire was driving up Vanadium Road on Sept. 9 when Collier Township police said he lost control at the railroad tracks in Kirwan Heights and crashed into a minivan going the other way. A driver who Collier police say was under the influence of drugs and alcohol while fighting with officers and paramedics during a traffic stop will head to trial on numerous charges. Melani Buck, 36, of Tarentum, waived her right to a preliminary hearing on four felony charges of aggravated assault, along with other charges of DUI, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief. Police said they stopped Buck on Pinkerton Run Road near Settlers Cabin Park before she allegedly kicked two officers and a paramedic. She later had to be taken to a Pittsburgh area hospital after suffering some sort of medical problem. A caregiver accused of bilking an elderly woman out of $11,000 last year is heading to trial on more than two dozen forgery charges. Beverly A. Seifert, 52, of Findlay Township, waived her right to a preliminary hearing on 25 charges of forgery and one count each of theft, access device fraud and bad checks. Her preliminary hearing with District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet was held on Dec. 10. Collier police say she was working as a caregiver for a Fairacre Court resident whose “health was declining” and used the woman’s checks and credit cards to spend $11,000 over the past year. Trespassing and disorderly conduct charges against a Carnegie man accused of being at a Scott Township residence in July have been withdrawn. Both charges against 56-year-old Gerard Romeo were withdrawn during his preliminary hearing with District Judge Gary M. Zyra on Nov. 29. Scott Township police arrested Romeo in the early hours of July 30 after they said he was trespassing on a Segar Road residence. They did not elaborate on what he was doing at the residence. Some charges have been dropped against a Bridgeville man accused of assaulting police officers following his arrest for DUI in October. Charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct against 48-year-old John Hall were withdrawn during his preliminary hearing on Nov. 19. However, charges of drunken driving, simple assault, terrorist threats and careless driving against him were waived to court during his hearing with District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet. Police said Hall became combative after officers conducted a field sobriety test in the 200 block of Washington Avenue on Oct. 17. Two Bridgeville people accused of stealing an elderly Scott Township man’s checkbook and writing blank checks with it are heading to trial on numerous forgery counts. Scott Township police said Gregory Guzzi, 33, and Amy Guzzi, 34, stole the checks and used them on multiple occasions in September. Each waived 18 forgery counts and one conspiracy count to trial during their preliminary hearing with District Judge Gary Zyra on Oct. 11. Amy Guzzi also waived to court one count of receiving stolen property. Four felony counts of access device fraud were withdrawn by investigators.
