Charges Withdrawn Against Men Accused of Stealing Beer Pitcher

An update on court cases heard by District Judge Gary Zyra.

The following is an update on court cases heard by District Judge Gary Zyra on April 25. Zyra oversees Heidelberg and Scott Township. Most charges were withdrawn against two men accused of stealing a beer pitcher from Heidelway Bar in Heidelberg in January. Charges of theft, recklessly endangering another person and reckless driving were withdrawn, and a disorderly conduct charge was reduced to a non-traffic citation, against Justin Wells, 23, of Castle Shannon, following a preliminary hearing on April 25. A theft charge against Robert Ball, 23, of Scott Township also was withdrawn and a disorderly conduct charged was reduced to a non-traffic citation, according to court records. Three Accused of Heidelberg Burglary Going to Trial

Heidelberg police filed charges against three men in connection with a burglary in the borough in December.

Three men accused of burglarizing a Heidelberg home in December will go to trial on most of the charges following their preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Zyra. Charges of burglary, conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property, possessing an instrument of crime and criminal use of a communications facility against David Barton, 26, of Scott Township, were waived to court during his preliminary hearing on April 11. James Comley, 30, of Heidelberg, waived to court charges of conspiring to commit burglary, false swearing to police, conspiring to commit theft and possessing an instrument of crime. Man Accused of Stealing Elderly Neighbor’s Car Held for Court

The Scott Township man who allegedly stole his elderly neighbor’s car last month and threatened her if she called authorities is going to trial on all charges. Read about that and other preliminary court decisions by District Judge Gary Zyra.

The Scott Township man who allegedly stole his elderly neighbor’s car last month and threatened her if she called authorities is going to trial on all charges. Robert Jasper, 47, is accused of taking took the woman’s car from her Elmbrook Lane home and driving it around the neighborhood on March 8. He was held for trial on charges of theft, terroristic threats and resisting arrest during his preliminary hearing with District Judge Gary Zyra on April 4. Scott Township police said the woman was fearful so she didn’t contact them. However, another person in the neighborhood noticed Jasper driving the woman’s car and called police. A Heidelberg woman accused of alerting police to a false emergency is heading to trial on most of the charges.

A Heidelberg woman accused of alerting police to a false emergency is heading to trial on most of the charges. Heidelberg police said Heather Dickson, 27, called officers to her borough home last month for a report of an argument with another person. But police said there was never an emergency and she lied to them about the incident. Police charged her on March 4 after investigating. Dickson waived to court charges of false information to police, false reports and false alarms to emergency responders. Two Charged in Retail Theft Spree Going to Trial

Two of the three people accused of going on a retail theft shopping spree at stores in the Greentree Road Shopping Center and two other area plazas are going to trial on all charges.

An East Carnegie man accused of trading drugs to have sex with a Scott Township woman’s 14-year-old daughter is going to trial on charges of sexual assault and corruption of a minor.

An East Carnegie man accused of trading drugs to have sex with a Scott Township woman’s 14-year-old daughter is going to trial on charges of sexual assault and corruption of a minor. Scott Brandon Kunak, 21, was arrested earlier this month by Scott Township police on charges he sold prescription drugs to the girl to give to her mother, before a sexual relationship began. After several meetings with the girl at Carnegie Park, police said the mother then allowed Kunak to come to their Scott Township home. Kunak then began exchanging the prescription drugs for sex with the teen, according to KDKA-TV. Man Accused of DUI with Young Child in Car Waives Charges to Court

A Washington County man accused of driving drunk in Heidelberg with his young daughter in the car waived the most serious charges to court. John Bonacci, 43, of Washington, waived to court charges of drunken driving, child endangerment, careless driving, reckless driving and several traffic citations before his preliminary hearing with District Judge Gary M. Zyra on Feb. 7. Three counts of reckless endangerment were withdrawn by Heidelberg police. Police said they stopped Bonacci on Dec. 4 and found him to be impaired while driving with the young girl in the vehicle. Man Accused of Theft Waives Charges

A Crafton man accused of stealing money from a car console while he was receiving a ride from a motorist waived his theft charge to court.

A Crafton man accused of stealing money from a car console while he was receiving a ride from a motorist waived his theft charge to court. Justin Lewchenko, 21, of Crafton, was charged with theft after Scott Township police said he took money from a vehicle’s console after receiving a ride on Jan. 15. Police said the driver picked Lewchecnko up in Crafton and dropped him off in Scott Township. Lewchenko waived the theft charge to court before his preliminary hearing with District Judge Gary M.
