A fight at Duke’s Rib House & Grille in Scott Township led to a patron being hit in the head with a beer bottle, police said. The person, who was not identified by Scott Township police, was struck in the head shortly after 1 a.m. on Aug. 25. The unidentified suspect immediately left the scene. It’s not known if investigators have any leads on the suspect’s identity. Police did not say if the person hit by the beer bottle was injured. A Washington County man faces DUI charges after Bridgeville police said he crashed into another car on Washington Avenue in the middle of the afternoon. Police said they were called to a crash shortly before 1 p.m. on Aug. 18 in the 400 block of Washington Avenue and noticed one of the drivers might be impaired. John Flatz, 56, of South Strabane, failed a field sobriety test, police said, and was charged with DUI, prohibited acts and reckless driving. Police said no one was seriously injured in the crash. Dozens of police officers conducted one of the largest sobriety checkpoints in the South Hills on Wednesday night when they patrolled Route 50 in Bridgeville. The officers stopped 35 motorists on Washington Pike near Bridgeville Auto from 7:30 p.m. to shortly after 11 p.m. Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said the DUI checkpoint netted one arrest for driving under the influence of drugs, while officers issues 13 citations, wrote 15 warnings for expired inspection or registration tags and towed five vehicles. Another person was arrested for driving with altered tags. Area police departments are rolling out sobriety checkpoints and extra DUI patrols this weekend.
With all the events happening in and around Pittsburgh this weekend, area police departments want everyone to have fun—but they also want to keep everyone safe. The South Hills Area DUI Task Force, which includes police departments from Bridgeville, Scott, Collier, Mt. Lebanon, Baldwin, South Fayette and Castle Shannon, will increase efforts to find impaired drivers. Heidelberg police will have extra officers out Friday and Saturday nights with roving DUI patrols continuing through 4 a.m. Sunday. The Pittsburgh police will be conducting DUI patrols and managing sobriety checkpoints throughout the City of Pittsburgh this weekend. Scott Township police made five arrests and issued several traffic citations during their DUI checkpoint early Saturday morning. Scott police Sgt. Steve Fury said they’re not sure how many cars passed through the DUI checkpoint on Greentree Road, but that they made two arrests for drunken driving and wrote nine traffic citations for summary offenses. Fredric S. Miller, 35, and Richard Booker, 53, both from Scott Township were each charged with drunken driving, Fury said. Dillon J. Kasel, 18, of Canonsburg, was charged with underage possession of alcohol when Fury said officers found a beer can in his vehicle during the checkpoint. They should have invited Cecil, North or South Strabane, Canonsburg or Peters to the party. They all have ALPR (Automatic License Plate Reecognition). Just scan your license plate and they can tell if your registration is expired. Even thought they got them for the narcotic traffiskers and wanted felons. Just another tax collection tool.
