Snapped Telephone Pole To Be Replaced Soon

A utility pole that snapped in half when a pick-up truck crashed into it last year along Route 50 near Raceway Plaza will finally be replaced.

A utility pole that snapped in half when a pick-up truck crashed into it last year near Raceway Plaza will finally be soon. The pole located on Route 50 across from the former Damon’s restaurant in Collier Township has been stabilized at the base by large, wooden splints since the crash. But the pole has been leaning slightly ever since the driver, who was seriously injured in the crash, plowed into it while coming home from work on Dec. 10. Some emergency responders expressed concern about its stability and thought it should be replaced. Live Traffic Map of Route 50 Corridor

We’ve put together a “live traffic map” that shows you how Route 50 and other roads around the South Hills are moving as people make a final rush on Christmas shopping.

There are only a few more shopping days left before Christmas and the strip malls and stores that dot Route 50 from Bridgeville to Heidelberg are expected to be packed. That means Washington Pike likely will be bumper-to-bumper traffic as people try to get out of Chartiers Valley Shopping Center, Great Southern, Collier Town Square or Raceway Plaza. We’ve put together a “live traffic map” that shows you how Route 50 and other roads around Pittsburgh are flowing. You can click on the map and move it around to see other parts of the South Hills. Man Allegedly Exposed Himself to Women at Tanning Salons

A Washington County man allegedly exposed himself to workers at two Collier tanning salons.

Police say a Washington County man who came into two Collier Township tanning salons this month was looking for more than a tan. The man apparently exposed himself to the women working at the two separate tanning salons when he came in to inquire about their rates, Collier Township police said. Heath W. Piper, 31, of Canton Township, now faces numerous charges of indecent exposure, open lewdness, harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal attempt. Police said Piper walked into the Sun Club in Great Southern Shopping Center on Oct. 6 and talked to a worker there about purchasing a tanning package. While she showed Piper around the business, police said he exposed himself as they were looking at tanning lotions on display. Like the …

New Candy Shop Offers Sweet Treats

The Sweet Shoppe & Nut House, which just opened in Collier Town Square, offers a wide variety of fudge, caramel, chocolate, bark, rice crispy snacks, roasted nuts and gelato.

The sweet smell of fudge and chocolate surrounds you when you enter the new local candy shop in Collier Towns Square. The Sweet Shoppe & Nut House offers a wide variety of fudge, caramel, chocolate, bark, rice crispy snacks, roasted nuts and gelato. You’d think it would be a haven for kids, but it’s also a big attraction for adults. That’s exactly what Laurie Temple, who opened the store in August, hoped when she took the leap from her job as a medical sales rep to become a small business owner. “Everything is very fun,” Temple said. “I wanted to find a business that would appeal to my whole family.” The key to the shop, Temple said, is that her “great staff” cooks the fudge and other treats from scratch. That’s very evident by the fresh …
