Parkway West Career School Might Close

Alternative Center for Education, which serves Chartiers Valley and many other local communities, could be shut down due to low student enrollment.

Presto-Sygan Road Closing For Repairs

Work will begin June 18 to build a retaining wall where the northbound lane slid down a hillside following heavy rains in spring 2011. Stop signs and concrete barriers were place on Presto-Sygan Road near Bethany Cemetery, forcing motorists to stop and alternate driving on the remaining lane. Once the retaining wall is built, which PennDOT officials said should be finished by early July, the area will be prepared for final construction work in the fall. PennDOT expects the roadway to be fully restored by October. PennDOT is urging motorists to use posted detours, which will take drivers from Millers Run Road, turning …

Glendale Bridge Will Be Closed This Weekend

Traffic that normally uses Carothers Avenue in Scott Township will be detoured through Carnegie.

The Glendale Bridge that carries traffic from Carothers Avenue in Scott Township over to Carnegie will be closed this weekend for repairs. The closure will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday and run through 6 a.m. Monday. Traffic from Route 50 will be re-routed through Carnegie. People who normally use the bridge in Glendale instead should take Route 50 through Carnegie, turn left onto Main Street before taking Third Street. Local traffic, however, will be allowed to access the roads leading up to the bridge. Allegheny County’s public works department is conducting the work on the aging bridge. Meanwhile, PennDOT said construction crews will close one lane on Interstate 79 in both directions near the Bridgeville exit next Monday and Tuesday. The …
