Festival of Trees Returns to Bridgeville

The fundraiser for the Bridgeville Public Library will have more than 30 personalized trees designed by area businesses and residents.

The annual Festival of Trees is returning to Bridgeville this weekend with numerous decorated trees, raffles, food and Santa Claus performing magic. The weekend fundraiser at the Bridgeville Fire Department's Chartiers Room supports the library and will have more than 30 personalized trees designed by area businesses and residents. Betty Copeland, who is the chairperson for the ninth annual event, said each tree carries the personality of the business or person who entered it into the competition. She pointed to a Punxsutawney Phil Christmas tree by the "Outer Circle Groundhog Club" as an example of one of the trees that will be displayed this weekend. “It’s amazing the themes they come up with,” Copeland said. St. Clair Hospital had a flying Christmas tree as workers installed the 20-foot Colorado Blue Spruce.

The tree came from a farm in Sarver. Workers are expected to start decorating the tree Wednesday, and Chartiers Valley Patch will be there to get photos of the finished product. Meanwhile, St. Clair Hospital celebrated its Gold Award for sustaining excellence in emergency room patient flow by giving each of the more than 2,000 employees an ER Smiley cookie from Eat ‘n Park. Christmas Tree Tradition Continues at Bedner's

Local farm market has been a holiday staple for more than 60 years

On Thanksgiving morning, truckloads of Christmas trees arrived at Bedner's Farm Market awaiting many local buyers during the next few weeks. Bedner's, located on Bower Hill Road near Bridgeville, has remained family-owned and operated since it opened in 1919. Dave Rostron is the third generation owner and took over after his uncle passed away a few years ago. He's carrying on the family tradition of quality merchandise, good prices and great service with a smile. Bedner's spans about 130 acres and the workers grow their vegetables, but they don't have enough room to grow Christmas trees so they have brought them in from a farm in Tennessee over the past few years.
