But how does your spending compare to prior holiday seasons? Those who have lost jobs due to the economy, who feel their jobs might be threatened or who have suffered other setbacks might be a little tighter with the purse strings than someone who just got that promotion. State Police and the Pennsylvania DUI Association discuss preventing drunken driving.
It's an unfortunate part of the holiday season each year, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Robin Mungo said. "We usually start to see it rise around Thanksgiving," Mungo said of drunken-driving arrests and crashes. "So this is a reminder to people around the holidays. If you have a friend who you've seen drinking, stop them before they get into a car." Standing alongside the state's DUI Victims Moving Memorial at the Mall at Robinson, Mungo said state police typically handle an increased number of drunken-driving arrests, crashes and fatalities during the December holiday season. PennDOT and Pennsylvania DUI Association officials joined her today at the memorial to urge Western Pennsylvania's drivers not to drink and drive during the …

Neville House Candlelight Tours Offer a Peek at the Past
Take a step back in time to an era where the holidays were more traditional and simple. Christmas Day was reserved mainly for church services. The Nevilles were originally from Winchester, Va., and observed the holiday in the Southern-style tradition of entertaining and dancing. They would observe tradition from Christmas Day for 12 …

Area residents, businesses decorate for the holidays
There's always that one special thing that puts you in the holiday mood, the one thing that when it happens, you just know it's that time of year. Whether it's a favorite Christmas carol, the Black Friday shopping rush or a lighted display, it signals another year of celebration with family and friends. For me, it's Anderson Equipment Company's festive display along Washington Pike in Collier. Each year, workers there have dutifully set up a holiday scene that puts a smile on my face while coming home each day from work. The company's lighted displays have included Santa's team of reindeer (a set of Caterpillars) leading a sleigh, nativity scenes and this year's exhibit that hosts a family of caroling snowmen accompanied by Santa. It's …
