From The Editor's Desk

Meet Erin Faulk: New Local Editor for Chartiers Valley Patch

I look forward to covering the Chartiers Valley area.

Hello, Chartiers Valley Patch readers! I'm Erin, and I'm the new local editor for Chartiers Valley Patch. Former editor Mike Jones, who today begins working for the Observer-Reporter in Washington, Pa., has introduced me to many of you. If I haven't met you yet, I hope for the opportunity to meet you soon. For the past year and a half, I have served as the local editor for Dormont-Brookline Patch, and I will continue that role while also serving the Chartiers Valley communities. Community journalism is what I love, and I’ve been working in the field since 2007. I began my career as a contributor for the Observer-Reporter. From there, I became a freelance contributor for both the Bridgeville News and The Signal Item—both publications of …

CV Patch Celebrates 2nd Anniversary!

It's been two years since we launched Chartiers Valley Patch, and since then I’ve reported on feel-good stories, heart-breaking tragedies and incidents that make you scratch your head. Click to read the Top 10 stories in 2012.

Today is the second anniversary since we launched Chartiers Valley Patch on Dec. 13, 2010! Over the past two years, I’ve covered everything happening in Bridgeville, Collier, Heidelberg and Scott Township. Since then, I’ve reported on feel-good stories, heart-breaking tragedies and incidents that make you scratch your head. We also stimulated conversations about the fate of Chartiers Valley school bus drivers, whether a local dad should have left his kids in Scott Park to shower and if students at a high school hockey game acted inappropriately. We're working hard to make your life easy by providing news you can use, a business directory with information about places you go, real estate information if you're looking to buy or sell a home …

Hurricane Sandy Dominates News Coverage

It should come as no surprise that this week’s top news stories on Patch were about Hurricane Sandy.

It should come as no surprise that this week’s top news stories were dominated by Hurricane Sandy coverage. And while our friends along the East Coast took the brunt of the punishment, people in the Pittsburgh area were just as interested and concerned about how the unusual superstorm would affect us here. The top story of the week (and month, for that matter) was about most South Hills communities rescheduling Trick-or-Treating to Saturday. Only Carnegie kept it on the traditional Halloween night. Other top stories included forecasting when Sandy would hit the Pittsburgh area and the aftermath of it passing through western Pennsylvania. Two more stories included downed trees and powerlines that closed a Bridgeville road for hours and a …

My Turn

Meet the Newest Member of Our Patch Family!

Join us in welcoming Brian Duncan, our new ad manager, who will help with your marketing and advertising needs! Here’s a bit more about Brian in his own words.

Community journalism and neighborhood togetherness have played a strong role in my life since I was a young boy.  It all started when I delivered the "Community News" weekly publication when I was 12. My dad was also always hyper-aware of everything going on around town, so I learned a lot about community awareness and togetherness from him.  Back in those days, it was all word of mouth and maybe the weekly newspaper.  But now we have Patch!    I obtained my bachelor’s degree in communications at La Roche College with the intention of reinventing media for the 21st century. And while that happened to some extent with deep research papers about a cashless society and a show on the web radio station, all that was just a bit ahead of the …

Learn How to Post Your Events onto CV Patch!

This tutorial is for anyone who wants to publicize their event for free using Chartiers Valley Patch's calendar and announcements page!

There are things happening all Bridgeville, Collier, Heidelberg and Scott every day, and it's impossible for one person to know about all of them. You can help make this site a better representation of what's going on in the community by adding the events you know about to the Chartiers Valley Patch events calendar and announcements page. Our event calendar and announcements page are great for things such as fundraisers, classes, garage sales, shows, concerts — anything where you would need to know the when and where. The video above explains how to post info to the events calendar. It's incredibly easy. Here's a step-by-step:   How to post an announcement: The steps are very similar except you click onto the Announcements link under the "…

See Who Won The Fishbowl Gift Card!

We selected a winner to receive a $25 gift card to LaBella Bean in Bridgeville. See who won!

The Patch fishbowl at LaBella Bean was a great success and we thank everyone who dropped their business cards or email addresses in during April’s contest. LaBella Bean workers Vanessa DiBello and MJ Whalen pulled the winner this week and selected Carol Garland’s business card. Garland, who lives in Collier Township, will receive a $25 gift certificate to LaBella Bean courtesy of Patch. The fishbowl was placed at the Bridgeville coffee shop’s counter for most of April and received quite a few business cards. If you didn’t have a chance to drop your card in the fishbowl this time, don’t worry because the official Patch aquatic tank will be out at another local business soon. Look for it when you’re out shopping or grabbing a bite to eat in …
