Spencer Stefko has resigned from his position as the Chartiers Valley Lady Colts basketball coach, according to The Almanac. Stefko submitted his resignation to Chartiers Valley’s athletic director Frank Vulcano Jr. on Friday stating he thought a new person was needed to coach the girls’ basketball team, according to The Almanac. The decision is puzzling because it comes on the heels of a season in which the Lady Colts advanced to the WPIAL championship game for the first time in school history. The girls lost to Bethel Park in the championship game. Chartiers Valley’s Frank Vulcano Jr. has been selected for the state PIAA District VII Athletic Director of the Year Award. Vulcano will be awarded the Region IV Athletic director of the year award on March 14 at Hershey.
Chartiers Valley’s Frank Vulcano Jr. has been selected for the state PIAA District VII Athletic Director of the Year Award. Vulcano will be awarded the Region IV Athletic director of the year award on March 14 at Hershey. Vulcano’s service consists of various activities, as he has been part of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Director’s Association and League from July 2007until June 2011, serving as president for two years, and vice president for two years. He was also a Board of Control Member for three years. In addition, Mr. Vulcano is the Chairman of the WPIAL Wrestling Committee and has been the Tournament Director for all Sectional and District Tournaments for the past nine years, and has hosted 275 …

The Chartiers Valley girls’ basketball team’s magical run to their first ever WPIAL finals appearance ended in heartbreak Sunday night. The Lady Colts lost the AAAA championship game to Bethel Park 48-34 at the A.J. Palumbo Center on Duquesne’s campus, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The loss came one night after the boys’ basketball team fell to Montour in their AAA WPIAL championship game. But both teams are done playing yet. The Lady Colts are scheduled to play their first-round PIAA state playoff game against Allderdice at 7 p.m. Friday in Carrick. Chartiers Valley sophomore Maria Lohman captured another WPIAL diving title this month.
A Chartiers Valley High School sophomore captured another WPIAL diving title this month. Maria Lohman won the AAA diving championship and became the first diver in history to hold back-to-back WPIAL title. She won on Feb. 23 with a score of 467.60, according to Chartiers Valley’s official Twitter feed. Maria also won the AA championship last year. She now heads to the PIAA state championship in March. The Chartiers Valley School Board unanimously approved a three-year contract extension for the district’s teachers’ union during its Tuesday night voting meeting. The board agreed to the extension more than a year before the current contract is set to expire, meaning there will be labor peace in the Chartiers Valley School District until at least 2017. Sally Shollenberger, president of the Chartiers Valley Federation of Teachers, said the union was pleased to negotiate a contract extension before their current deal expired at the end of the 2013-14 school year. “Our process went very, very smoothly,” she told Chartiers Valley Patch in a phone interview on Wednesday. The Chartiers Valley boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both won their semifinal playoff games Tuesday night to advance to the WPIAL Championship games.
The Chartiers Valley boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both won their semifinal playoff games Tuesday night to advance to the WPIAL Championship games. Both basketball teams controlled the scoreboard for most of their games at North Allegheny High School. The Chartiers Valley Colts blew out Beaver 68-43 and will once again play in the WPIAL championship game, according to The Almanac's @SHAlmanacSports Twitter feed. They will play Montour for the AAA WPIAL title. The Lady Colts beat rival Mt.
