A tractor-trailer barreled through the concrete median on I-376 near Carnegie before crashing into cars and causing major traffic back-ups in both directions Friday morning.
Crews have reopened all lanes of the Parkway West four hours after a major crash closed the interstate in both directions near the Carnegie exit Friday morning. A tractor-trailer apparently barreled through the concrete median, crashing into two cars and causing major traffic back-ups in both directions, WPXI-TV reported. The crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. during the morning rush hour commute. It’s not known if anyone was injured in the crash. PennDOT workers could be seen working most of the morning trying to repair the concrete median. A leaking tanker truck on Noblestown Road in Collier Township has forced nearby residents to evacuate and PennDOT to close the Carnegie interstate exit. Residents were allowed to return to their homes shortly before 6 p.m.

A leaking tanker truck on Noblestown Road near Carnegie forced nearby residents and workers to evacuate the area for nearly seven hours Wednesday. Collier police stopped the tanker truck, which was leaking an unknown fuel, around 11 a.m. Wednesday as it was heading into Carnegie near the Interstate 79 exit, Kirwan Heights fire Chief Mark Lewis said. The chemical was removed from the tanker and the road was reopened around 5:45 p.m. The problem forced the evacuation of nearby homes in Collier’s Cubbage Hill neighborhood and PennDOT closed the Carnegie exit of I-79. A tire came off another vehicle and crashed through the windshield of a 19-year-old woman driving in the other direction.
A 19-year-old woman driving on the Parkway West late Monday night died after a wheel came off a vehicle traveling in the other direction and smashed through her windshield. Katie Puwalowski of Pittsburgh suffered “major injuries” in the crash near the Carnegie exit shortly after 11 p.m., state police said. She was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital and pronounced dead at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office. Police said Puwalowski was incapacitated by the tire and a passenger in her car, who was not seriously injured, had to take control of the wheel and guide it to a stop. A five-vehicle crash Monday morning caused heavy delays on I-376 at Carnegie during the morning commute.
Drivers on the Parkway West had a serious case of the Mondays during their morning commute. Five vehicles, including a large truck, crashed in the outbound Parkway West lanes near the Carnegie exit in the middle of the Monday morning rush hour. The crash happened around 8 a.m. and initially blocked all lanes just beyond the Carnegie exit. Traffic was detoured onto Noblestown Road toward Interstate 79. Firefighters from East Carnegie arrived at the scene and were able to reopen the highway shortly after 9 a.m. By 10 a.m., traffic appeared to be moving normally.
