Police and the FBI had been monitoring 88 Spa in Bridgeville for months before raiding the massage parlor Tuesday and arresting three women. Here's the story you won't hear from TV news about what went into the prostitution sting.
Police heard rumblings of a prostitution ring at 88 Spa in Bridgeville not long after the massage parlor opened in the borough’s main business district in October 2011. But investigators said they had to be patient to collect evidence and then work with federal authorities to find out if the ring also involved human trafficking or organized crime. “We had info from neighboring businesses that it was pretty obviously what was going on there,” Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said. “But knowing something and proving it are two different things.” By last July, King said they had enough evidence to make a case and contacted the FBI to ramp up the investigation. Federal investigators set up surveillance on the spa located across from …

Police say Brenton Dillon was supposed to be interviewed to aid in a separate investigation. Instead, he now faces several drug charges. Read about that and other crime news in the weekly Bridgeville police blotter.
A man who apparently knew he would be searched for drugs when he arrived at the Bridgeville Police Department to aid in an investigation still allegedly brought illegal prescription drugs and paraphernalia with him, police said Brenton Dillon, 28, of Bridgeville, came to the borough’s police station on Jan. 23 and was told earlier he would be searched by officers before the interview began. But as officers approached him for the search, police said he reached into his pants pocket and tried to hide something in his hand. Police said they found a container with prescription pills, along with $735 in cash, two cell phones and “cut straws” that are used to inhale powder substances. Police said they also found in his car cut straws and a …

Do you think it's a good move for Bridgeville to spend $5,227 on Tasers for the police officers? Tell us in the comments section below.
Bridgeville has purchased four Tasers for the borough police department. The borough approved the purchase of the Tasers, holsters, training equipment, extra cartridges, batteries and warranties for $5,227. Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said he was pleased that the department will be able to utilize the Taser with proper training for all of his officers. King said he’s spent time researching the Taser and writing a department policy on how it would be used in certain situations. He told the borough council on Monday night that half of the 10 “use of force” cases involving his police officers over the past three years might have warranted use of a Taser. Not long after Bridgeville police arrested a man for stealing items from unlocked cars, the thefts have started up again around town. Except 22-year-old Nathan Weydener has been jailed without bond since Dec. 4, meaning someone else is now taking advantage of people who are leaving valuables in their unlocked vehicles. “Since we arrested that kid, we thought we nipped it in the bud,” Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said, adding he does not think the two cases are related. “But it’s been going steady ever since.” King said a man was seen prowling on Bank Street last week around the time several things were taken from a woman’s car. Police later found her pants and a first aid kit a few streets away after the person sifted through the …

The Taser is quickly becoming a popular tool in the law enforcement community to stop suspects who are resisting arrest. But without the proper training–and more importantly, funding–Bridgeville police Chief Chad King doesn’t expect his department will be getting Tasers any time soon. “If I can’t do it right, then I’m not going to do it,” King said. “I’m not 100 percent against Tasers, but I don’t have the funds and can’t provide adequate training for them.” He pointed to a tight budget proposal in which he expects his department will lose about $21,000 in funding. “They’re costly,” King said. “The training, Tasers and cartridges are very costly.” Councilman Michael Chiodo brought up the issue during the borough’s Monday night meeting and …
