CV Senior Named Youth of the Year

Dominic Panucci received the annual award from the Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania.

Dominic Panucci thinks that spending much of his youth hanging out at the Chartiers Boys & Girls Club in Carnegie helped him to grow up. The 18-year-old Collier Township resident played sports, made friends and eventually learned how to become a leader and mentor for other kids. Meanwhile, the Chartiers Valley High School senior battled a mysterious disease that would send him to the hospital every few months. It was through his leadership and determination through difficult times that earned him the Youth of the Year award from the Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh Penguin Visits Youth Group

National Aviary brings a South African penguin to Chartiers Boys & Girls Club.

It wasn’t Sidney Crosby who created a stir at the Chartiers Boys & Girls Club, but rather a South African penguin that enthralled the kids. Trainers from the National Aviary in Pittsburgh brought Simon to the youth facility in Carnegie so students could learn a little more about penguins and the aviary. The kids sat behind a long slice of masking tape and patiently raised their hands to ask questions about Simon. Their inquiries ranged from why he had a name band slapped around his right wing to how trainers know when a penguin is about to lay an egg. St. Clair Hospital has a relationship with the National Aviary and donated the event to the Chartiers Boys & Girls Club, which serves students from the Chartiers Valley and Carlynton school …
