Scott Township Trying to Fix Sewage Bill Mistakes

Scott Township is working to correct mistakes to some of the sewage bills sent out to residents.

Pat Martin couldn’t believe her eyes when she opened up her new quarterly sewage bill from Scott Township this month and it read $348.38. A major accounting error accidentally tied the Scott Township resident’s sewage bill into another account, making it more than five times higher than her actual usage suggested. Martin’s actual bill for three months should have been $67.84. Scott Township officials are now working to correct that mistake and other problems now that municipalities are in charge of sending out the sewage bills. PA American Water turned the billing services over to each of the municipalities this year. Bridgeville Sewage Rates Increasing

ALCOSAN Hike on the Horizon By a majority vote, in which councilmembers Michael Chiodo and William Colussy opposed, council passed an ordinance pertaining to general rates charged for sewage service given to the customers of Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) within the borough. Borough manager Lori Collins explained that the proposed change reflects an ALCOSAN rate increase of $0.28 per 1,000 gallons of water usage and an increase in the service charge of $0.59 per bill issued. The Borough of Bridgeville’s proposed change reflects an increase of $1 per 1,000 gallons of water usage. This sets ALCOSAN’s proposed rate at $4.32 per 1,000 gallons and the borough’s proposed rate at $3.50 per 1,000 gallons, for a total rate of $7.82 …

Sewage Tank No Longer an Option in Heidelberg Park

Heidelberg Park isn't a prime location for ALCOSAN's storage tank

Heidelberg Park has been removed as a possible location to install a multimillion-gallon ALCOSAN sewage storage tank, Mayor Kenneth LaSota said. The Heidelberg mayor told the borough council this week that he learned earlier this month that ALCOSAN has removed the park from consideration and may go with a different approach to the storage plan. ALCOSAN had wanted to install a 6 to 9-million gallon storage tank underneath Heidelberg Park, along with various other locations near the Chartiers Creek. LaSota said the issue galvanized the community for two years and garnered 126 signatures on a petition against the plan. LaSota said he attended an ALCOSAN committee meeting on Aug. 2 and saw that Heidelberg Park had been removed from the plan. …
