The following is an update on court cases heard by District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet on May 6. McGraw-Desmet oversees Bridgeville and Collier Township. Charges were held for court on Monday against a Bridgeville woman involved in a drug bust at a house where two young children lived. Shelby Casper, 21, is charged with firearms possession, altering a firearm, marijuana possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of children. The charges were held for court following a preliminary hearing May 6 before Magisterial District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet. Scott Township police blotter, April 29 to May 4.
Three Pittsburgh women face charged after an incident at Marshalls Department Store in Scott Township on May 4. Scott police charged Raenal Stevenson, 23, and Cheyenne Arrington, 18, with retail theft and receiving stolen property for their involvement in a retail theft incident at the department store between 1:23 and 3 p.m. that day. Stevenson also was charged with providing false identification to law enforcement. Her mother, Linda Witherspoon, 47, was charged with obstruction of administration of law for her involvement in covering up the identity of her daughter. Collier Township police blotter, April 21 to May 4.
Collier Township police are investigating a theft at Sally’s Beauty Supply on April 25. According to the police report, a black male who looked to be in his 30s stole two flat iron, each valued at $70, from the store in Great Southern Shopping Center. He reportedly left the area in an older-style Jeep driven by a white female. Those with information can contact Collier police. A bomb threat was discovered Friday in a bathroom at the Intermediate School, but no credible threat was found by local police and fire departments.
No threat was found, and a suspect already had been identified, in a bomb threat made late in the day on Friday, May 6, at Chartiers Valley Intermediate School. The following letter was sent home with students on Monday: Dear Parents/ Guardians, On Friday, May 3, Intermediate School staff discovered a bomb threat in a student restroom at the Intermediate School in the late afternoon. All threats are taken very seriously and the police and fire departments were called immediately. In addition, students and staff were evacuated from the building. The following is an update on court cases heard by District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet in April. McGraw-Desmet oversees Bridgeville and Collier Township. A Cecil Township man charged with DUI and other crimes after he crashed into a tanker truck in Bridgeville has waived the charges for court. Devin D. Carter, 38, was arrested Feb. 8 after Bridgeville police said they saw him walking away from the scene of a crash on Bower Hill Road. Carter is accused of crashing into a tanker truck while driving under the influence of drugs. The truck’s fuel tank ruptured as a result of the crash, spilling diesel onto the roadway and causing traffic delays. Carter was charged with DUI, carless driving and operating a vehicle without valid inspection. …

The Kirwan Heights Volunteer Fire Department will give community members an inside look at its operations this weekend. The fire department is hosting an open house from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, providing tours of its facility and equipment, as well as public safety tips and training for visitors. The open house begins Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with a First Aid and CPR class. Events throughout the day include station, fire truck and ambulance tours, fire extinguisher training, safety demos, a smoke trailer, a vehicle rescue demonstration and more. Russell Forrest, the man accused of molesting a 3-year-old girl, was sentenced to an additional year in prison for drug charges.
Russell Forrest, the Bridgeville man recently sentenced for charges of molesting a 3-year-old girl, was sentenced to an additional year for drug charges, Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said Thursday. Forrest was sentenced April 17 to serve three to six years in prison for molesting a 3-year-old girl last August. King said that on April 30, Forrest was sentenced to an additional year in prison for charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. However, King said the additional year is to be served concurrently with the three to six year jail sentence imposed on April 17. Forrest will serve his term in a state prison, King said. Warrants were out for the arrests of Eric Abare and Kelly Broderick.
Eric Abare and Kelly Broderick, formerly of Bridgeville, found themselves behind bars again after Allegheny County sheriff's deputies arrested the pair outside of UPMC Mercy Hospital. According to the Post-Gazette, Abare was wanted for failing to appear in court last week. Broderick was wanted after officials learned she hadn't lived at any of hte addresses she provided to the court—a violation of her bond conditions. Abare and Broderick are facing charges stemming from a January 2012 incident in which their 3-month-old son suffered fractures to both legs and several ribs. Abare is also charged with simple assault for allegedly slamming a 7-year-old onto a couch in an argument over the TV channel at a Crafton homeless shelter, according …
