The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.
One drink could be the standard for drunken driving—at least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. However, officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. A blood drive will be held next week for Sydney Hawk, a 3-year-old Bridgeville resident who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.
A replenishment blood drive in Bridgeville on May 26 will support a local child who recently was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Sydney Hawk, 3, is the daughter of Karin and Joe Hawk of Bridgeville. Her sister, Addison, is a kindergarten student at Chartiers Valley Primary School. Sydney was diagnosed with leukemia in March and received treatment at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. She has Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a rare condition occurring in less than 10 percent of children with ALL. Her treatments are expected to last for about two and a half years, and will require many units of blood. Those wishing to donate to Sydney’s cause can come to the Holy Child Catholic School…

Aspiring young chefs and little foodies are invited to get a taste of just how fun food can be at Simon Kidgits Club Lil Chefs, an annual Simon malls event designed to get kids learning about the craft of cooking and all things food.
