Football Season Begins

Many area high schools, including Chartiers Valley, are playing their first football game of the school year on Friday, Aug. 30. CV plays at 7 p.m. at Chartiers Valley High School Stadium against Moon area High School. For a full high school football schedule, see the WPIAL website.

Movie Weekend

Two favorites—one for action and one for teen angst—are playing nearby at Dormont's Hollywood Theater this weekend. "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" (1989) and "The Breakfast Club" (1985) are on the marquee. Allegheny County Music Festival

The 14th annual Allegheny County Music Festival, featuring Rusted Root and several local bands, is Sunday, Sept. 1, at the amphitheater in Hartwood Acres Park. Opening acts begin at 5 p.m.

Festival Line-up

A $20-per-car suggested donation is collected at the gate. Tickets for a 50-50 raffle are sold throughout the concert. Proceeds benefit children and youth served through the Department of Human Services and/or Juvenile Probation.

The Living Dead Festival

Ahhh, zombies!  The Living Dead Festival is being held Friday, Aug. 30 and Saturday Aug. 31 in Evans City’s EDCO Park. Located just outside Cranberry, Evans City is where scenes from the cult classic “Night of the Living Dead” were filmed.

The event will feature celebrity guest signing sessions, including meet and greets with Night of the Living Dead actors Judith O’Dea and Russ Streiner.

There also will be a celebration at the iconic Evans City Cemetery chapel, where parts of the movie were filmed, and a screening of Night of the Living Dead.
