PRO Martial Arts "Kicks" Childhood Cancer

A local martial arts studio raised more than $3,000 for pediatric cancer research in May, all of which was donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

PRO Martial Arts in Bridgeville hosted the Kick-a-Thon Fundraiser on May 4 to raise money for the organization and help “kick” childhood cancer.

“It was amazing to see how much our community, local businesses, students and their families got behind the cause and reached out to their friends and family to help fundraise,” said PRO Martial Arts program director, Shannon Glantz.

More than 30 families, most of whom are members of PMA, raised money by selling gently used toys, setting up lemonade stands and collecting donations from family and friends. The organization’s goal was to raise $1,000, and organizers were pleased to see that amount tripled.

“Our students and their families raised money in very different and creative ways…Not to mention, we had a great response from local businesses with raffle donations and sponsorships,” Grantz said.

A number of local businesses and organizations either sponsored or donated to the event, including PapaGallo Cucina, Pittsburgh Bottleshop Café, Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South, Rockefeller’s Grille, Texas Roadhouse, Washington Wild Things, Pittsburgh Pirates, Hollywood Tans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Sweet Shoppe & Nut House, Loova, Thee Olde Place Inn, and Big Guys Pizza.
