Heat Index Could Reach 102 Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued another heat advisory for the Chartiers Valley area.

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh has issued a heat advisory from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, for much of southwestern Pennsylvania.

Heat index values of 97 to 102 are predicted due to temperatures in the lower 90s and dew points in the lower-to-mid 70s.

Locations within cities may experience heat index values slightly higher due to additional heat from asphalt and brick.

The worst conditions will be between 2 and 6 p.m., according to the NWS statement.

If you are susceptible to heat, limit your outdoor activity.

A heat advisory was also issued on Wednesday. Plum had a heat index of 103 at 2:34 p.m., Upper St. Clair had a heat index of 97 at 2:14 p.m., Edgewood had a heat index of 96 at 2:59 p.m. and Pittsburgh International Airport had a heat index of 91 at 4:51 p.m.
