Colts quarterback Wayne Capers rushed for 103 yards and converted a 4th down play by running 25 yards for the game-winning score that downed the Black Hawks 24-17 in a non-conference matchup.

Capers overthrew several receivers early in the game, but connected with Zach Chapman on a 66-yard touchdown bomb in the second quarter. Juliano Coury helped the Colts take the lead in the third quarter when he bounced a run to the right sideline and ran 63 yards practically untouched to the end zone.

But it was Chartiers Valley’s defense that came up big late in the game with Bethel Park threatening.

After the Colts missed a field goal, Bethel Park took over at their 20-yard line with 5:22 left in the game trailing by just a touchdown. The Black Hawks marched all the way to the Colts’ 1-yard line and were threatening to score when quarterback Anthony Cinello fumbled the snap and was brought down at the 5.

On 4th down with 5 seconds left in the game, Cinello chucked the ball into the end zone, but it was batted away by a Chartiers Valley defender. The Colts stormed the field, celebrating a non-conference victory against a Quad-A opponent.

The Colts (3-1, 2-0) nearly gave away the game earlier when a bobbled handle on a punt attempt led to a safety. The Hawks (1-3, 0-0) then used the free kick to drive into Chartiers Valley territory before kicking a field goal to take a 14-10 lead.

But the Colts roared back with Coury’s long touchdown run and Capers big 4th down conversion.

The Colts play Belle Vernon at home next Friday night in a Big 8 Conference game that will air on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m.
