Colts' Leading Scorer Will Suit Up

Senior Matt Noszka is expected to be back in the lineup after a three-game absence.

Chartiers Valley's leading scorer Matt Noszka is expected to play in today’s first-round playoff game against Norwin at Baldwin High School after a three-game suspension, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

Coach Tim McConnell could not be reached for comment on why the senior's suspension has been overturned for the playoffs.

The team went 2-1 in his absence, with victories over Moon and South Fayette. The Colts’ lone loss during the stretch was to Section 4-AAAA rival Upper St. Clair.

The suspension started shortly after Noszka was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over by Collier Township police on Feb. 6 for speeding on Hilltop Road. According to police reports, the officer detected alcohol on Noszka’s breath, although he did not appear to be drunk.

The officer then dropped Noszka off at a local gas station to find a way home, and took the driver of the vehicle, Elisabeth Therrien, to the Collier Township Police Department on drunken driving charges.

The preliminary hearing for Noszka on charges of underage drinking and prohibited acts is scheduled for March 14 at District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet’s office in South Fayette Township.
