Collier's Little League Team Plays on ESPN

Collier Township's youth baseball team is just two wins away from the Little League World Series in Williamsport and will appear on ESPN at 11 a.m.

will play their regional semi-final game at 11 a.m. Friday, which will be televised live on ESPN.

The team has been in Bristol, CT, for the past week and went 2-2 in pool play. They now will play their semi-final regional game against New Jersey, which beat them 4-3 last Saturday.

Steve Alauzen, a coach on the team, said they’re excited about the opportunity Friday morning. He thinks they’ll hit better than they did last weekend against New Jersey.

“They’re really excited,” Alauzen said. “They had interviews (Thursday) with the ESPN people. They’re all fired up. It’s been wild.”

Alauzen said the crowds have increased with each game. He expects a big group of parents for Friday’s game.

If Collier wins Friday and then again in the championship game on Sunday, they’ll be put on a bus Monday morning and sent to Williamsport for the Little League World Series.

“The more we win, the more and more people are coming up,” he said. “Everyone’s into it. The parents, kids and coaches, they couldn’t be happier.”
